"Mid-Life Crisis?" was the 1st comment a date had when I picked her up in my 993 :o)

My story; when I was single I owned a string of Alfa Romeo's. Got married, bought a house, started having kids, bought a investment property, funded college, bought another house, all while driving a Honda.
Well, I get the 7 year itch. I told wifey, 'I've gotten the 7 year itch. I'm getting a sportscar, or a girlfriend. You can pick.' Four Porsches later...

I've been asked several times and my answer is similar to one posted earlier. I started my 'mid-life crisis' at age 16 with a used '64 Olds F-85 with a solid V8. I have always owned either a muscle or sports car for the next 40 years. Never been without one. I hope the 'crisis' lasts for another 40 years. Not likely but you get the idea.

A close friend of my wife asked me about the color of my 993 saying "it would be hard to hide in that"...
When I responded it was Speed Yellow, her response was "glad to see your mid-life crisis has an offical color".
My response - "it's safer than Blonde"

I was 33 when I bought my 993. Good, fun memories, but no crisis when I was 33.
Are you on F$%^.com Steve---I mean Match.com ? Same thing but I have lots of fun stories of internet dating in my late 20's, early 30's. :-)

I see it as an attempt to break the ice from someone who's not so into cars. Went through a lot of that in my 30s when I hit the dating scene hard. Prior to that, all of the women I got involved with had Porsches, or at a minimum aspired to one. Side benefit of owning a Porsche shop and hanging around the track?
I caught some flack from the non-car women, but I'd had a 911 since I was 18. Which was maybe three years before I ever went out on a date.

Steve,
It's funny.. they don't say that to women. My parents are the only ones who asked me why I got a convertible Porsche.
When I told them that John (a car fanatic buddy of mine) told me that "you could pick up any guy you wanted in that car." They said "Oh, that makes sense."
I guess they figured it was a reward after being married to my ex for 14 years!
Edit: Forgot to add ... I NEVER drive the Porsche on the first dates ... men don't seem to like to like it when I have a nicer ride than they do (present company excluded of course)

I wouldn't introduce a first date to my parents or my 993. Of course now that I am married to a Boxster owner I won't have any more first dates.
My 'crisis' was well on it's way in 1977 when I was 19 and driving the corvette below. I didn't get many second dates after they cracked their head on the rollbar and burned their leg on the side exhaust.
