Why can't you guys be on the discovery channel instead of west coast customs? I could watch this for hours on end...

We'd be up for it, so why not write to the producers and ask them the same question?

My head is spinning as well! What I thought was the basecoat was actually just the primer a few pages ago. Now we have the final color basecoat of Maritime Blue and clearcoat. It takes a real master to paint the roof and drip rails keeping the paint "wet" enough but not so wet that the paint begins to run.

Beautiful work Colin!

I second that

Especially when you see the crappy craftsmanship displayed by those guys at WCC. Last one I watched they were murdering a lambo and were adjusting the exhaust by kicking it, great

I think you stand a better chance of getting aired when:

A) You're excellent at picking fights and using tools in the wrong manner before breaking them.

B) Adjust 9M welding to the benchmark set by Leepu's chop shop garage....

I know especially the latter will be a tough act to follow but once you've mastered the art of Frankenstein stitch welding and Bondo sculpting you're an instant succes....

Oh, almost forgot:

C) You just got to have some BS deadline in place...you just have got to!!

"3am at the garage, while Colin is taking a nap from throwing his sledgehammer through the fridge door, their client's hamster's birthday is coming up soon so the team is pressing on to complete the build in time....."

All joking aside...9M is amazing, I'd love to see TV coverage!

Well, we're not quite prime time TV at the moment so for the meantime a few more still shots will just have to do......

The other panels have to be painted next. The doors here been finish primered & block sanded; one came out perfect, the other in the foreground revealed a high spot which was levelled through to the etch primer base layer. This one will be primered blue & blocked again.

Now that the paint has hardened the shell can also be wet flatted with progressively finer paper down to 2000 grit until it is ready for the buffer. We leave the masking paper in place for this job to protect the insides from contamination by the flatting residue and water.

After machine polishing we can finally remove the mask and see the finished bodyshell in all its shiny new paint.

We're planning one final paint run to finish off the paintwork. Here the seats have been stripped and flatted ready for primer and the replacement bonnet is being paint strippered. It's a replacement bonnet because although the original one off the donor car looked perfectly fine , after removing the paint we discovered that it had more in common with a potato crisp than a 993 bonnet. Just goes to show that you never quite know what lies underneath when you start stripping paint, which of course justifies our policy of bare-metaling all panels that we have to warranty a repair on.

It's like Christmas everytime you update this thread. Scrolling down to the latest post is just like tearing the wrapping off to reveal the gift within.

Everything looks fantastic and thanks for the latest news.

Lee and Neil have now flatted & polished the doors whilst the other panels are being prepared for paint.

Todays work included sorting out the anciliary parts ready for painting satin black, like the door frames, fuel lines and other miscelaneous chassis brackets. It's a chore but someone's got to do it.....

Give Marc a call to discuss the job, he'll be able to tell you exactly what is involved and how long it will take. Try him on our works number 01925 242342 somewhere around lunchtime.

The boys are cracking on with the details in Panelcraft, polishing more panels and painting all the miscelaneous brackets ready for assembly.
