You are moving quickly on this! Are you going to let your daughter paint something? That's the payoff after all of the boring prep stuff. I was going to recommend the primer, but it's already done.

Father to daughter conversation via mobile phone, 30 minutes ago:

Dad "JJ, where are you now?"
JJ "I'm over at my friends house"
Dad "OK, drop everything and I'll pick you up"
JJ "Why"
Dad "cause we're painting your bike, now! If you come down to the garage you can do some of the painting. How cool is that?"
JJ "But I'm with my mates"
Dad "So? They can come too."
JJ "But we're all going into town and then on to the fair at the park"
Dad "Well, it's not going to take all night, I'm sure you can manage 30 minutes out of your busy schedule"

Slight pause, maybe 20 seconds

JJ "Can't do it, they've all said they would go without me if I come with you"
Dad "fair enough, it's your loss, not mine"

So, you can lead a horse to water, but sometimes it don't wanna drink.

Ooh, I forgot about those two! Pulling for Rivi Blue as well, so now she has 3 choices...
You two are reading my mind, it's just a shame a 16yr old doesn't quite "get" the RS colour schemes. I wanted loud and bright and my favourite was Riviera Blue, a bit like the Vespa GTS below. Then last Saturday I bought a secondhand top box for the project in Vespa orange. Wow.

Unfortunately you'll have to wait and see how the Dad/Daughter+Mum colour debate ended, but suffice to say I did not get it (entirely) my own way.

Rubystone rounds out the full "gumball" palette...

MC has just finished laying on the second coat of laquer to seal in the colour and the parts are now on bake, hence I'm hoping to drop into work in the morning to take some photos of the finished article and save you all from your attempts to second guess what JJ decided on. Hopefully the sun will be shining so you can get a true picture of the colour(s).

In the meantime, this was the scene last night. Before the topcoat was applied we seal sealed the entire frame and hit it with the same type of water-based spray sealer that we use on the Speedster. Although it was not strictly necessary, I also took the trouble to mask off the underside and stonechip that as well. The photos show the dry spray sealer on the inside of the frame and Marc in the booth carefully misting the finish onto the bottom, which will obviously look like the factory 993 sill textured finish when it is dry.

Just catching up now. I was loving the "joint project" but its a Colin masterpiece nonetheless. I really appreciate the level of detail you give to your projects, scooters included. Well done.

I can guess how the conversation went with her friends.

JJ "Dad says I have to help paint my scooter!"

Friends "Oh that's just so uncool, just tell your old man to get on with it"

JJ "Yeah, I guess you guys are right, I got him wound round my finger"

Great work by the way, Colin. I have a daughter whose 17 and it is uncool hanging around with her father when she can be out with her mates - the only time she wants to come with us is when we go on holiday

So, here were the shots from Friday evening with Marc in the booth shooting on the final coats of clear laquer over the base coats.

So it's not Viper Green, Signal Orange, Riviera Blue or Rubystone Red. JJ decided that she did not want a really loud colour, so after eliminating her first choice of pearl white on the grounds of its creamy white base we settled on refinishing the Vespa in its original silver colour.

With a twist....

Nice work, this just screams about a subtle Martini stripe....as a reference to the Van Lennep Targa Florio RSR. How much more Italian can you go on a Vespa? :-)

Here's a nice key strap to add:

The pearl Vespa is an original colour on the ET2 & ET4 models, as in your photo. Although JJ liked it, we both thought it to be a little bit too creamy, plus the fact that it was a stock colour on the ET and not the LX that she has got.

The Alfa is close to our new colour, there are also other examples of similar finishes on the net like these two examples of Spectracoat (Prismatic tidal wave) from specialist paint:
