Glad to hear the chrome is going away. Thought for a moment this was your finished product!

Ermmm, unfortunately I doubt that it has the power to turn my dyno wheels, let alone make a full power run.
That said, I think I made a massive improvement to the power-to-weight ratio and aero numbers with nothing but a pair of 13mm spanners in the next step.

Hey Colin,

I'm from Warrington myself, must drop in sometime to see you guys next time I am up. Living in Windsor now.

I think you could go totally radical, with something like this:

Or 'rod it:

Or make it Harley:

Either way, if you do something cool, remember scooters are too easy to steal!

Yes, drop in anytime, we always like to see new faces, especially fellow Rennlisters.

As for the Scoot: radical = no, but cool = hell yes!

Default Let the stripdown begin

As soon as the Scoot came off the ramps, I fired up the engine and attempted to ride it around the block but gave up as it was impossible to ride. The flat tyres & sticking front brake pad probably did not help, but rather than attempt to ride it again me and JJ got out the spanners & screwdrivers and the declutter began. As you can see, even our labrador Woody got in on the act.

Aside from all the obvious chrome bits, the one discerning previous owner decided to cover the footboard with chequer plate, which on casual glance did not look too bad. However, when you got up close you can see that it is actually made up from thin pressed alluminium plate cut into narrow strips which have been self-tappered onto the plastic footboard. I sent JJ to work on this with an electric screwdriver removing the layers one at a time. I kid you not, two batteries and 150 screws later we finally had a pile of scrap destined for the bin. Nice.

Funnily enough, one of my best mates is a multiple world champion in FSR model powerboat racing and is recognised as a leading expert in his field of two-stroke tuning. The largest engine he works on is a 35cc pre-mix petrol, so that's not too far away from our little 50cc..... however I believe (!) that a de-restricted LX50 will do around 45mph, so that will be plenty quick enough when the need arises.

I note you like Audis too. Your A2 is a keeper. Wish I had picked up one when they were in production.

But they were too expensive.

Looking forward to this thread too.

That is (was) a sweet ride! However, your daughter might need to ditch the straw hat in favor of a pork pie hat.

Errrm, no it wasn't, wait till I show you all a close up of the custom painting! I'll post more later once I've finished my real work for the day.

Time to look more closely at the custom paint job.

So, on first glance the Union Jacks made the scoot look quite distinctive, however when you look up close you can just about see from the photos that they were actually painted onto the frame with a brush. Actually, when I say brush it could have been a yard brush, such was the finish. I'm not sure what type of paint he used but it was probably some sort of enamel, but suffice to say that he did not waste any time applying it since he painted over the decals and raised Vespa logo on the front of the legshield. The artist also had doubts over his masking ability so he bottled out from painting the red stripes on the white background of the jacks and applied a contrasting red tape instead.

As you can see, by the time we had finished stripping off the "extras" it was dusk, but by then we had freed off the sticking brake pad, pumped up the tyres and taken it for a quick blast around the green. Goes well now.

The mechanical stripdown for real started the next day.
