I fitted the freshly painted front wheel but had to leave on the original rear until I get a tyre fitted to the new one. I then brimmed the tanks with fuel & oil and at that point all that was then left to do was wheel the bike out into the early evening sunshine for JJ to take to the road for the first time (actually, I got the first ride, but it was only a quick loop of the block to make sure the new brake pads were bedded in).
So here it is in all its glory:
9m Vespa restoration #1: Done!

Thanks boys.
The jury is still out on the colour of the seat. I think the original dark grey one would look better, but I couldn't use it because aside from it being covered in fake fur with 00's of staples, the original owner also chopped pieces out of the sides to clear the non-functional chrome backrest supports. I scoured around (read searched Ebay) and all I could find for a sensible price was the tan one, so I bought that with the intention of having it recovered. I think if we do have it done in black or dark grey it will complement the wheels and grey plastic trims much better.
The hot news as well is that I approached a UK scooter magazine called Twist & Go about doing a feature on it and the editor has confirmed that he'll be over in a couple of weeks to take photos of the Vespa with JJ & me and get the full story.
And JJ's reaction?
"Hey, that's way cool, I'll have to get my hair done!"
