No, it's a 1964 David Brown with a 3 cylinder diesel. My business partner Marc used it for pulling his boat in and out of the sea for 10 years before deciding to bring it back to the shop for a "repaint". That was 18 months ago. After doing some research he als found out that this was the changeover year for DB tractor design and the only year this design had the 3 cylinder engine, the next year's model had the square enclosed cab. Apparently the new design went down like a lead balloon with farmers who preferred the look of the old version and were too slow to realise that the new cab model could be used in all weathers, so DB hastily mated the old chassis to the new engine to fulfil demand. By the time it hit the dealers the farmers were buying the new one, so not many got sold; which of course means that not many survive.....
.... so Marc's now powder coated & refurbed the wheels & fitted new tyres; cleaned, blasted, epoxy primed & painted the body, repaired the hood, fitted an alternator and is now contemplating making new rear arches to simulate the originals.
So, whilst not a Porsche, it's a good talking point when tongue in cheek we tell people it's an Aston Martin!

Just wondered because there was a Porsche Tractor on the TEPIC stand at Tatton this year, apparently a 1 cylinder motor!
That's one hell of a story.. farmers prefer aesthetics to practicality!

The shell should, if all things go to plan, land itself on the Cellette chassis jig tomorrow to begin the panel removal and fabrication work sometime early next week.
OK, so it's not quite Overhaulin'..........

Day 4 has been & gone - more good progress, with the shell completely stripped of all removable components. The shell is now on the body jig, and all the pick-up points lined up spot on with no raunching or pulling required - satisfying proof that the base car is 'dead straight'. Considering that the car was screwed together 12 years ago, it's testament to the initial build quality of the 993.
Pleased also to find no horrors or rust pockets, even so with the amount of panel work required once all the welding has been completed it will be acid dipped & electro-plated for longevity.
The jig all ready for the car
The 'Eagle has Landed!'
So next job - let's go Wide Body!......... to be continued!

I was too embarassed to ask (actually I didn't want to hijack the thread), so I looked through every page of the PET until I found it!
