^^It had me going as well until I looked closely at the brake caliper positions. As you've pointed out to me in the past, if the car is so well done that it's had it's windshield wiper cowl panel swapped out for 993 metal, the brake calipers still give them away as 964 based conversions. But this car in particular has a very good fit and finish. From the pictures I've seen, the gaps look very tight. The only 'flaw' if you could call it that, would be the engine lid bottom edge fit against the rear fenders. What do you think that little 'bull' decal means?

Owner (in France) with ties to Spain &/or its wine?

Must be an 'exPat'. Can you imagine a Frenchman displaying a Spanish wine decal on his car ...?? ;-)

I know, right? Maybe too much Spanish brandy before sticker installation

Here's a photo of the same Speedster, posted a year ago on the "Rennlist/ PCA member's 993 SPEEDSTER" thread.
Gonzilla had a similar question about a different silver Speedster; it had a motorcycle decal affixed to the same place on its engine lid...

J-

you should write a book on the 993 speedster.... the one that got away from Porsche... and detail the owners - because I am sure they all are as eccentric as you.

So, not sure if this has been mentioned or not...but....

what is the total count of 993 speedsters (that you are at liberty to discuss)? their locations? the colors? and other vital details?
(I think it is time for a chart!)

ps: will call tomorrow if you are around. this is my "5 minute" break from craziness (hi all !)

Alf! Nice to hear from you, it's been aWHILE!! It's funny you should mention a 'count' of 993 Speedsters. I was just discussing this very subject recently and the basis for the count was Speedsters made from 993 base cars that have been seen in pictures or in person ONLY. The list was not very long (8 or 9 vehicles if my memory serves..). There are certainly a few more cars that have been 'alluded' to existing by people who are considered 'authorities', but there isn't any physical evidence of any of them, and that seems unlikely to me, so I'm interested as well

Happy you dig the info here.

For book work: If you can guarantee pre-sales > 5,000 prints or e-orders, I'm in

First, though ... need a passionate reporter to collaborate with. There was a time you were asking for more details on the following custom Speedster.
Done any on-location investigating? Up for this European reporting assignment?

Alf-- Great to hear from you, but all too briefly: please call again when cell coverage permits.

JP-- Following up on previous interest: If you're ever in the area, I'll be glad to relay my leads toward this Speedster's owner, if desired.
In the meantime, perhaps our new Italian friends can help?

I hear ya on the San Fran resemblance, but it's Italy.

Yep! Highly customized; lots of personal / coachbuilder touches.

True -- the trick's to only include those built on 993s. Quite a few on 964s & earlier.

Speaking of, below's an interior shot of the Speedster that's dominated the last two pages.

BTW, only two 993 Speedsters in the USA that I know of.
