First of all, the TT performance over my C4S is unquestionable, however I haven't seen TTs pull away significantly from me on the track unless you're dealing with long straight sections. In effect my suspension set-up allowed me to stay with them through turns quite well.
My thoughts were that I need to pay cash for my toys (cars) and I need to be able to afford to maintain them. I just paid $1000 for a front brake pad and rotor job (just didn't have to time to do it myself). With the additional purchase price of a TT this would have stretched my financial capabilities. $$$ (or lack thereof) is my #1 driver for keeping my C4S and not trading up to a TT. If I ever sell my C4S it will be replaced by a TT (I have been toying with this at times) - even though I prefer the cleaner lines of the C4S over the aero kit.

The TT just didn't fit my budget at the time I was looking for a 993. I wanted a car in immaculate condition and the price differential between an immaculate n/a 993 and an immaculate TT was substantial.
I think the 993TT is an awesome machine. It appears that the relative maintenance cost between a n/a 993 and a TT is minimal, which I didn't know at the time I was looking for a car.
However, none of that really makes much difference to me because I have never aspired to own a turbo charged car. I don't really have any specific reason other than I just like the linear feel of a normally aspirated engine that has been tuned to get as much horsepower that it can get without assistance. It is a purely personal thing with me. The 993TT's I've been lucky enough to drive or ride in have been truly thrilling but I was always glad to get back to my n/a 993.

Simply put the TT was too much car for me. I loved my C4S and unfortunately had to sell it to buy a bigger house. I miss my Porsche but at least I can honestly say I owned one...

Although the TT is a great road Gt car, for me it is too heavy and cumbersome on the track, you have to spend quite a lot of money to realise it's true potential.
I much prefer my '95 993RS for road and track thanks!

Yup, Cost! Given that I would modify any P-car I'd own, then modding a car that is beyond my means is worse than modding a car that's just within my means. No envy, though...I love my NA and will never get rid of it...Never! If I came into a windfall, I'd just get a TT to match

I was about to start a new thread on Porsche withdrawal. I took the Pcar the past weekend (both Sat. and Sun., it's usually just one or the other) and thought it I should be good to go until the next weekend, but it's only Tues. and i'm already hurtin'.
Even worse, Porsche weather here in the East is dwindling.....

I just bought a 98 C2S. I wanted a great car, great condition, super low miles, no issues. A tt like that is about $20k more. That's my favorite $20k. I love turbos, always have. I had a Volvo turbo, but that doesn't count. I will have a tt at some point. Most likely when I'm tired of this car and save some more money. Price was the main reason. Just could not swing it right now and did not want to wait another year to get a 993.
I feel so sorry for you guys who live in the frozen tundra. Parking the car for months? What's up with that. Move! Just kidding, love the NE, but could never live there. Snow is a nice thing to visit.

Heck I would LOVE to own one... but I can't afford to buy a 3rd Porsche In reality I could have had one...but now I have 1 cabrio and 1 track car... nothing beats that combo

I actually bought the C4S because I wanted a fun winter car...I already have the monster Turbo car and just needed good ol' fun and reliability. I have really grown to love the NA car. One easily acclimates to power...and both the TT and NA are all about handling and finesse at speed. One of my mechanics has a twin turbo'd 930 that spun the tires on the dyno rollers after showing 675 HP at the wheels....he said after driving it for a week straight, it starts to feel "slow"...he lets it sit to drive one of his other cars, comes back to the 930 and it feels fast again...
The 993 in either form are wonderful cars...we're a lucky bunch~!

Wow,
Thanks for the response.
I'm actually quite surprised that many cited finance as a factor. I guess I read too many threads about $5k for wheels/tires, $6k for suspension/brakes, $4k for carbon build-ups etc. I had the impression that 993 owners are well financed AND willing to spend on their cars. Or may be the BAR group (Jauder, Kim, Mooty, Pin, Bob, Arnaud, Bill, Jeff, etc.) I run with is not representative of other Porsche owners, at least as far as car expenditures go.
I fully agree with the assessment that the NA 993 is too much car for American roads already. Our law enforcement gives the enjoyment of a tt a 50% hair-cut, ay least.
