Jauder,

But the hybrid turbo is on? You need a fire-supression system don't you?

No, the hybrids are not done yet. I've been pretty busy. The last mod was the oil cooler.

Hybrids are excellent gents. Highly recommend it. She goes from 0.0 bar up to .8 immediately.

I'll chime in here. When I first looked into Porsches, I loved the 993. The 996's did nothing for me. I had to have a widebody, plus I saved some $$ buying used. I thought moving up from a 91 RX-7 to a Porsche would be more than enough upgrade for me. But hanging around the BAR Group doesn't help as so many of them own turbos. I would love to trade up for a turbo, in fact Jauder has my dream car. But, too much invested in the C4s now, I'll probably end up keeping this car forever.

For me, having driven lots of 4wd 996s, 993s, it has to be 2 wheel drive. Also prefer a high reving / large cc NA engine to turbo. 2.7RS and 993RS are the ultimate 911s for me. Perhaps a 996GT3 or 997GT3 at some stage, yet to be convinced though.

Bit of a traditionalist really.

As to a comparison with cost of repairs for the TT and a Ferrari, it is a BIG difference. My brother had a 348SS and I had a Testatossa and let me tell you my 30k service was over $7k. I don't think the TT will cost me half that for a 30k service. BTW any idea how much a 30k service cost for a TT

Turbos are too much to worry about - more maintenence cost, more tickets. They're lots of fun, but tell me CP, how often do you really use all that power in your RUF?

For me the decision to buy a n/a 993 was very easy......I dint' ha'no sebenty gran layn round..

Seriously, even if my CFO allowed me to spend TT money (bought my car April, 2001), which that time was in the neighborhood of $70K, I dont think I would have bought one for a few reasons:
1) I originally started looking at 964's, and spent almost a year doing so. In that year, 993 prices were becoming a reality for us, so I got the big permission from my lovely wife.
2) My previous two 911's were a '78SC and more recently a '74 coupe. A TT would have been a really big step for me in learning to drive..
3) Maintenance costs scared me (at the time) away from a TT
4) Much prefer a RWD sports car

If I had the choice now? HMMM... I dunno...I guess it would depend on what I found... I do know someday I will have one

I had originally reserved a 5k miles TT, but when deciding upon a NA car, my perceptions were as follows: (1) I find the "revability" of the NA 993 quite good, I "don't run out of road so easily", (2) to be honest the NA is within my limits as a driver. (3) I appreciate the original clean lines w/o any rear wing, (4) I prefer rear wheel drive. (5) Being addicted to the wide-body (yepp...), the C2S was for me the perfect match. Adding to this I guess was lower running costs, and a TT would cost me $35-40k extra (can you believe that?!) in import tax to Norway as compared to a NA.....

It is interesting that no one mentions the fit and finish on the TT as compared to the C2 or C$...notice that I did not say the C4S, since it was built on the same line as the TT. My 95 C2 is a 9.5 out of 10 in terms of fit/finish whereas the C4Ss and TTs I have seen are closer to a 10. My friend at the factory said that since these were the more special cars, they took extra care to ensure everything was just right. I would love to have a C4S or a TT- they are both rolling pieces of art. That is, however, not to take away anything from any 993- it is one of the most beautiful cars of all time, in any form!

I'll let CP answer for himself, but I use all 400+ ft-lbs of torque every time I drive the car, it helps in low and high speed accelerating. Maintenance costs have been no more than a 993 NA (brakes, oil, filters, major services), mod costs are another matter altogether. Also, zero tickets for me (knock on wood, and thanks to V-1). Otherwise, I can understand one preferring the NA power delivery characteristics, spoiler-less aesthetics, or lower acquisition cost.

I track the TT rather frequently so I do use available power.
