I enjoy the RUF real early (6ish) on weekends when I take her out to the twisties, and stay in second gear for about 30 miles or so. When I get home, my face is flush and hurts from all the way.

You do have to love a car that can drain the blood from your cheeks and deform your eyeballs
To all - not exactly saying that the turbo's power is useless, it's just to me and where I live I would be able to mash the pedal once in a blue moon on a turbo. And that my friends would be a *pity*. On a N/A car, I can wind the thing out through the first three gears, hear that beautiful engine howl, and still have time to slow down before somebody is in my way

Opinion Alert:
Yeah, flat air, I know what you mean ...I commute
Yet one doesn't "Need" an autobahn to enjoy power. If that were the case, we wouldn't "need" our "overpowered" NAs to troll through traffic as we'd all be satisfied with that 97HP EPA-approved econobox. I enjoy every bit of my 250lbs of torque on each onramp and every corner exit. Even my humble little NA with it's meager output (comparatively, of course) manages to put a smile on my face every time I hit the road. Power is good, and more IS better...but there are compromises (like the price of admission!). So more power to you, TT drivers ( ) ...enjoy in good health!

I think I'm one of the "poor" 993 owners . I never considered a Turbo of any kind while I was shopping. The first reason was price, but as has been noted you can always get an older Turbo if you are interested in one.
To me, there is an idea of a 911, if you will. That idea consists of the traditional silhouette, enough power for rapid road driving, and a sort of tasteful understatement. The tails, airdams, Turbo-Look kits, uber-flared fenders, slope-noses, and Testarossa-kit doors are all a dilution of that central idea - for me. Remember the opening sequence in Le Mans? That is what I think of when I think of "911".
I do not mean to denigrate or criticize the "extreme" cars or the people who own them. Those cars just aren't for me. I'm not interested in going fast in a 911. I have other cars for that. I'm not interested in all-weather ability - I have a Rover for that. My 993 is the debt paid to the little boy who begged his dad to take him to Porsche+Audi North to see the new 1984 Carrera, the teenager who drew 964s in his notebooks, the adult who drove five hours in two feet of snow to see the 993 Targa intro at the Detroit show... I wanted a 911, no frills, no tail, just Butzi's basic shape and as many improvements mechanically as possible, and I hope that's what I have!

that's a beautiful post. kind of similar to my experience. any 911 should make us feel happy and thankful.

that could be the best quote ever!! You need to contact Porsche and have them use that in the next ad.

Gotta find a way to link this prose with the 993 board forever.
Seeing this is one of your first posts, Pzkw993, would LOVE to see a lot more of your moving words of wisdom. Such insight, poignancy and truth.
While I appreciate your purist view of the 993, I can also see why some Porsche afficianados are enarmored by the 993tt, that talks the talk, and walks the walk.

The 993TT is a great car, but it's too damn expensive for me to buy and too damn expensive for me to race it as I'm inevitably destined to do.

CP,
Great thread sorry I came late. But having owned both a 95 NA993 and my current TT. Two totally different cars. If cost is taken out of the question then performance is the question. What's the question? You know Viperbob right?
