What if I had a C4S and did an AWD delete plus put 993 C2 brakes on it? would it be worth more than a C2S? asking for a friend.

Quite the opposite by devaluing the car. Also better “remove” the Turbo ABS Brake Booster System, Larger Turbo Brake Rotors because the C2S uses the C2 Brakes, Turbo Suspension......

Note: Porsche 4wd system is 95% rear and 5% front. Viscous coupling system. When rear slip is apparent, the viscous coupling transfers up to 40% front and 60% rear, so increasing traction under power whilst maitaining rwd bias.

I know this is a joke, but it speaks to the pointlessness and banality of "market value" discussions.

Nothing sells better than a bone stock, SUV ride height 993 with original blown shocks and cracked rubber and no miles.

Everything I've ever done to my car to make it better (FOR ME) also makes it less valuable. Not caring about market value is liberating. I've put more miles on the car in the past 2 years than it's had in the past 10.

When it's all said and done, these cars are rolling art that happen to be a blast to drive. Market value, while intriguing to watch, is ultimately boring.

  • The VAST majority of people I talk to are primarily motivated by the "wide-body" factor more than 2S vs 4S, meaning they view them somewhat interchangeably as either configuration gets them their primary goal which is the large rear hips.
  • With that said I do find the majority of people say some form of this "I am looking for a WB 993 coupe, my first preference is a 2S but I would also buy a 4S". So what this tells me is the preference skews 2S vs. 4S, but generally given the right spec, miles, condition, color, etc MOST (but not all) people will jump on either configuration.
  • If you had two comparable (which almost never happens due to so much variance car to car...) 2S & 4S cars, the 2S car would bring slightly more money and draw more interest.
  • The market for either model is so strong that we are really arguing silliness here, IF you own a WB 993 of either configuration, consider yourself lucky!
A few other notable points:
  • Human nature says most people will argue that whatever they have is somehow the superior configuration.
  • This argument has been ongoing since the 2S debut'd in 1997. The argument will never end as it is subjective on which is "best". I do think the case is more clear that the market currently values the 2S slightly over the 4S.
  • Not everyone is in either camp. Me personally? I am a narrow body, 1995 Coupe, fan... I have owned several WB cars over the years, but just personally prefer the NB. Does that make me think my car is worth more because I prefer it? Nope! Do I care? Nope! Ultimately buy what YOU love and enjoy, who cares what someone else thinks of your choice if it works for you. There is a reason Porsche offered multiple configurations, they know that not everyone prizes the same things! Any 993 is a great car!

just end the C4S/C2S debate. we all know they're both in high demand and wonderful cars.

Spot on Nathan!

Correct me if I'm wrong but it is interesting during this rise the WB increase rate is significantly more vs NB and even the TT?

Mind you the TT did have such a crazy rise last time maybe it's just closing the gap.

disclaimer: this is NOT my opinion. But people with more 911 ownership experience than i hypothesize that C2S will eventually be more valuable than a turbo.

That's an interesting perspective, only time will tell or maybe those in the car selling business like Nathan and Tarek can comment.

I do have some friends where once the delta reaches a certain point they will only go TT.

I don't see an NA 993 Carrera surpassing a TT (like car for like - obviously something like a low miles Vesuvio C2s in stellar condition would probably fetch something approaching $180-200k right now). Market trends for these cars seem pretty fixed. A rising tide lifts all boats.

I agree. I don’t see a C2S being worth more than a turbo either. The only conceivable scenario would be some sort of 30 year time bomb on a TT that doesn’t exist on a NA engine. I find that scenario to be basically impossible.

I think there will ALWAYS be a price delta between NA WB cars vs Turbo’s, of course assuming like mileage, quality, color, options and history. So of course A Particular NA WB may be worth more than a particular TT due to those factors, on average a Turbo will always be worth more as it was viewed as the top dog of its era.

Of course each individual owner will value certain things more, hence why Porsche made them in many flavors.
