I only state the FACTS nothing but the FACTS. C4S still commands the highest price.

Always surprised me how many people would ask...”where’s the engine?” Bought at 63 k, rolled past 122k this summer. Alas...no more bike rack on the roof. While I am certainly more aware of the current value...even on this dirty carfax, paintwork, slightly bastardized C4S...she might again see some trailhead duty this summer. After all...I ain’t getting any younger.
Love the mudder on the roof rack... those were the days.

What is with all the C4S vs C2S drama?

Everyone knows the C2S in the car you want.

RWD widebody. Its why the GT2 is so desirable…Turbo without AWD. Same as the 997.2 GTS - nobody wants the 4 - you want the RWD widebody.

So you f’ed up, got the wrong car, and now you feel the need to justify it with some data?

Just kidding - I love them both, I even love a 993 cab…but I guarantee some 4S blood is boiling reading this ^

It's not "much" heavier - about 130lbs difference.

How
Many seats and sunroofs and carpets would you have to rip out of that C4S to lose 130lbs. Love them both. C4S for winter and rain and supermarket runs. C2s for that moment of wow.

100lbs give or take over the C2S. C2S LSD was optional? HA! What good is that for the track! Most didn’t have LSD. C4S for the win! LSD standard. Loose the stock seats for Recaro Abe’s and loose the 100lbs right there! DONE! Time to educate y’all. C2S is not all it’s cracked up to be. Basic C2 on a WB shell is it folks.

Well I didn't even consider an "s" when I was looking. I had visions of driving in the winter here in Minnesota and 4S at least gave me some added traction. I also LOVE the Big Reds. Now that i don't drive it in the winter- i'd buy the best example - either car- I could find and not worry about it. 130 extra pounds- big deal. How many people track their 993's these days? I'm sure there are many- but with values headed north, I suspect more are coming off the track today than going on- so who cares about a little less weight.

Default Purpose

I believe the purpose of creating the S was for a lighter weight rear wheel wide-body from the turbo, ergo ditch the heavier AWD system and ditch the heavier solid spoke 18” turbo look wheels but retain the 18” technology hollow spoke turbo wheels. Many I have seen are very basically appointed. So when you find one with the desired extras like LSD, sport seats, aluminum or carbon fiber interior, sport suspension, motor sound mufflers, it’s special and price reflects that. Reminds me of the purpose of the 356 speedster and 964 RS America that are now highly valued as well.

The C4S was created for touring ergo the AWD for safety and solid spoke wheels.

So drive what floats your boat. I have owned both. Despite what others say, they feel very different. Both very good, but different.

And I think we have had this conversation for the past 25 years here.

I thought the reason was more prosaic. Porsche had too many wide body shells at the end of the run and they wanted to get rid of them. 1998 was wide body only for all coupes.

Default Ha

Then they must have had a lot of extra hollow spoke 18” technology wheels too. 👍

S came with 17s stock. Twists or Tech were extra. I don’t know how many people opted for the upgrade. Do you have that data by chance?

That was definitely the case with the 964. Which is why the 1994 was a wide body, even though it did not formally carry the "S" moniker - lots of Turbo carcases laying around, Porsche in financial difficulty (come Benz E500 / Audi RS2 to the rescue). Those last-yr run 964 widebodies/'turbo looks' are much sought after, and fetch a pretty premium.

I am not sure that was the same case in the 993 gen. In fact, only 299 C4Ss were made in the 1998MY (I am fortunate to own one of them), vs ~3.5x more C2Ss (993 to be exact, just like the model designation).
