At a glance, the C2S had 135,000 km compared to 48,000 km on the 4S.
A 993 Carrera S was Porsche's wave goodbye to the air-cooled era with a special edition using the widebody from the Turbo; a split grille in tribute to the 356 cars; unique material on the door panels and dash face; metallic colored gauge rings, shifter **** and e-brake handle; Carrera S script on the tach.etc etc
The C4S was just a regular C4 on a wide body shell with bigger brakes.
I completely agree with you on that point.

I have made this argument over and over to exhaustion

What unique material on the door panels ? Maybe as an option you mean?

1. Recent auction prices last 9 months for the C4S have outpriced the C2S especially with the Aero Kit II Turbo S Body Kit. Look it up.
2. The C4S was based off the Turbo without the Turbos.
3. Big Reds, larger diameter rotors and ABS Brake System with Booster same as the Turbo.
4. Turbo Suspension
5. AWD System same as the Turbo. 95% and 5% to the Front wheels. When rear slip is apparent, the viscous coupling transfers up to 40% front and 60% rear, so increasing traction under power whilst maitaining rwd bias. ABD and LSD was standard as compared with the C2S …it was not.
6. Turbo S Body Kit as an option $ $7,500 option back in 1996 ($13,743 today) based on my paperwork.
7. 6sp Manual only never offered in Tiptronic.
8. 18” Turbo Twists
9. The limited slip diff was not standard on the Carrera S. It was an option M220. What good is that on the track? Not many have it and why a C4S is a better driver’s choice and mine when comparing the two.
10. The Carrera S used the standard black calipers & plain rotors, not the bigger red brakes as the 4S and Turbo used. Think of the Carrera S (or 2S) as a standard 993 with a few specific "S" features, not as a Turbo without a turbo, or a 4S with two wheel drive.
11. Weight difference between the 2 is around 100lbs which is nothing… add LSD and ABD which most C2S owners wanted …this then the weight difference is even less.
12. Porsche acceleration specs are the same between both cars in stock form.
13. C4S does not understeer compared to the C2S.
14. The C4S is more stable in any condition.
15. If you want rarity 243 produced then get a last year production 1998 C4S.
16. I'm also not crazy about the standard imitation plastic gearshift and brake lever in the C2S that are supposed to look like the optional real aluminum pieces but a little darker. Speaking of standard, the standard wheels on a C2S are 17 inch cup wheels.
17. Jerry Seinfeld’ car Riviera Blue was a 1998 C4S and last “Air Cooled Porsche” to roll off the assembly line for the US… let that sink in… If the Carrera S was so special why wasn’t it that then?
We can agree to disagree

C4S most certainly -feels- rwd as compared to other awd cars, in my opinion.
I tried launching my car expecting it to catapult forward like my old Audi S4 and to my surprise just blazed the rear tires like a RWD car. That made me look into what torque split they are and it all made sense. Also, it's easy to drift compared to traditional AWD chassis prone to push.
For me (and as mentioned) the biggest benefit is not AWD but the LSD. (and I do like the clutch feel)
That being said, I think most everything else outweighs simply 4S vs 2S.
-Condition
-Mileage
-History
-Color combo
-Rare/desirable options?
-Easier to convert a 4S to rwd or upgrade the brakes on a 2S than pay for a respray and interior re-trim to oem spec.
For me, condition and color combo would take priority. As in, I would rather have a 4S in a desirable color combo than a 2S in colors I don't want.
And still, ended up with an F355 and C4S in red, which I would prefer in any other color.

My statement was completely tongue in cheek.
It is as ridiculous as George's statement.

I don’t believe c4s had turbo suspension. Spring rates, dampers, and sway bars were all different. M030 was an option and a good one at that. I remember driving one new with the sport suspension option and came away impressed. Definition of an over chassis car for the engine output, but very fun nonetheless.
Also the wheels are different stock (hollow vs solid spoke) and I believe the transmission is diffferent as well.
C4S is not simply a turbo without the turbos. C2S is not simply a wide body carerra. They are each unique and wonderful expressions of the 993 vision, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Within that pantheon we can all find something to love.

Actually I’m going to get my 996 Turbo S out of the shop today. After 7 years of it looking like a SUV, I ordered H&R lowering springs. Can’t wait to find a curvy road to test it out.

If they only made nine hundred and ninety three 993 C2S cars in 1998; Does the VIN indicate what number the car was of those 993?
Sorry if this has been discussed, just seems like it could play a role in value (is it the last, first)

Ignoring the fact that literally everything is overpriced right now, a 19k mile 993TT for $349k isn't out of line by any means.
