18" Cup 2 wheels

18" Cup 2 wheels
I've been researching the various wheel options for my NB car, looking to get a set of monoblock style wheels in an appropriate narrow body fitment as an alternative to my TechArt 3-piece wheels. In my research I found that Mille Miglia once made an 18" replica of the Cup 2 wheel, but it sounds like the quality was quite poor and they were prone to damage. I found a company in Ontario, Augment Wheels, that makes custom forged wheels, and they specialize in slightly improved ("OEM+") designs that can be custom made to any size and fitment. I see they have examples of the Cup 1 wheel on a number of 964s and they look awesome! I was in contact with them recently about making a set of custom 18" Cup 2 wheels and they said no problem! Best of all, the price seems super reasonable ($850 USD/wheel).
Eager to hear opinions on this concept - would anyone else be tempted to do a set of 18" Cup 2s? Any concerns about quality or strength with a custom forged wheel?
Link to an old thread here with some discussion about the MM replicas, with some nice pictures of what I have in mind.

Augment makes a good wheel.
Their pricing puts you into BBS LM, E88 and Fikse FM10 territory though. Wheels I mentioned will have better resale value, easier to sell and more "period correct" if any of these reasons are of concern.
I want to say that 928 may have come with Porsche stock wheels that may fit but very rare.

What about RUF? They make them Specifically designed for the narrow body.

Thanks, all good points. I don't love the style of the RUF wheels, but I understand the argument - if you're going to spend in that price range for 18" wheels may be better off to get something period correct and collectible than a one off custom set (unless money is no object and you want to express your own custom creation).
I suppose having a set of 17s for long road trips and occasional track use would make for a better compliment to my existing wheels than simply another set of expensive 18s. If anyone has a set of original Cup 2s they'd be willing to part with, let me know!

My priorities when it comes to wheels is that they be light, strong, and beautiful on the car. I'm still looking for the "perfect" set of wheels for my 993, and the closest I can find are the MY02's (so far). I would really be interested in seeing how this 18" Cup II wheel project goes, though, as I think they'd be an improvement over the MY02's in the strength department.

Thanks for the input guys! I ended up ordering a set of OEM 17" Cup 2s. I agree that the size and style seem well balanced to a narrowbody car, and I wanted something that was a significant contrast from my (almost excessively) large 3-piece TechArts. I want a set of wheels and tires I can mount for a long road trip into the mountains and not worry about damaging them or the car over big bumps. The TechArt 11" rear wheel on my narrowbody is fine around town, and remarkably rubs very little except over very large bumps. This is something I don't want to experience at highway speeds, 1000 miles from home.
I'll shelf the idea of the 18" Cup 2 for now. I think if I was going to get another set of 18s I might prefer to go with something more iconic like monoblock TechArt formulas.
In the rear my car has rolled fenders as well as custom suspension components with about -2.5 degree of camber in the back, so I'm curious to see how I can get the Cup 2s to fit. Will probably experiment with spacers, but would like to maintain a safe clearance level to avoid any rubbing.

FWIW, I vividly recall in my first year of owning this lovely beast that I was highly desirous of 18s, particularly the MY02 wheels as they were light, made my BBS, and widely available, esp used. But after I had redone the suspension and driven the car for a few years, I recognized the beauty and "purity" of the stock CupII on a NB car. Simple, elegant, and "right" in some intangible way. Clearly, all aesthetics are highly subjective, but factor in the light weight and superior street ride of 17s, I can't help but think the factory really got it right with this one

I am going to have to agree ...and offer this for consideration

Thanks, all! Edward - your car is beautiful and that photo in particular is what inspired me
to pull the trigger on the OEM Cup 2s.
Plan on mounting 205/50 front and 235/45 rear nokian studded snow tires and taking the car out on nice winter days. Kills me to leave the thing stored all winter, and we don't use salt on the roads here so I'm not concerned about accelerated corrosion. I'll avoid the sloppy days and just take it out when the ground is good and frozen.
Also - fully expect to take all the flak for this - I've ordered 21mm spacers for the back. Confident they'll fit based on calculations compared to my current fitment (the wheels will protrude a full inch less than currently, even WITH the spacer). Looking forward to seeing how it comes together.

Couple photos showing the current fitment and a diagram showing how things should fit with the 17s with spacers. Wish me luck 🤷🏼♂️
