Default Non Factory 18" Cup II Wheels.

I forget the name of an aftermarket firm, maybe Euro based, that manufactured a 18"x8 et52version of the factory 17"x7 et55 Cup II wheel?

Anyone know this? I want to use this aftermarket Cup II replica 18" wheel on another vehicle.

Well God Dam! Danke,, that's the ticket. I've reached out to the Post'r;;

Looking at the picture of a 964 with the 18" Cup II replica's has me considering a set for my 993; mine is wearing its original 17" Cup IIs as delivered in November of 1997.

Thanks again.

Im pretty sure these were made in Italy by Mille Migla in the mid 1990s.

I believe they may have stopped making them after brief production on request from Porsche. I was considering a set myself a few years back and got chatting to a UK enthusiast who was running these on a 944.

The only issues to consider for this wheel is that they are very heavy (for a one piece cast) and they are soft (from what he experienced with damage to rim).

Otherwise I think these look nice too and I attach a picture of them on a 993. Hopefully some day someone will re release these as a quality lightweight version that is strong....

Macca - Thanks for the detail and photo's. The 18 inch replica Cup II .. vs .. the 17 inch OEM Cup II has the appropriate wheel height for a lowered 993 ....

Thanks again.

Hi Mike. I did forget to mention my opinion on that in my post. You are 100% right. The car needs to be lowered a bit to set those 18" Cups off nicely. Its really a shame they dont still make them. Hopefully with all these companies now making revival fuches etc someone will turn their attention to these and the original Cup2s. I have no doubt the OEM Cups 2 17s will eventually become scarce. A good quality 18 Cup 2 would sell very well in this community I feel....Heres a few more pictures for your file. They even look good on 944s!

As a reference.
OEM Factory Cup 2 17s weight 7J=9kg and 9J = 10.15kg
Mille Miglia Cup 2 17s copies weight 7J = 10.9kg and 9.5J = 11.8kg (between 16-20% more)
Mille Miglia? Cup 18s copies like below were from memory 8J = 12kg and 10J = 13.5kg

As a comparison my Kerscher KRS 18 3 piece cup style alloys weigh 8J = 9.75kg and 10.5J - 10.25kg

Thats a fair difference in weight. The big issue with the Mille Miglias have always been how soft they are. I had the 17 cup copies for 2 years and bent 3 rims. They will crack too over time. Local guys here used to use them for racing sets but they became a PITA to keep round.....

Cheers
M

Is there a way to distinguish the Milie Meglias 17" Cup 2s (or other after market) from OEM other than by weight? My rears are embossed ITALY on the top of an inside rib as well as the Porsche part number, and other assorted markings. The fronts don't have the ITALY stamp and the Porsche part number is located in the rib cavity. Otherwise, they look identical from the front and inside. I have no reason to believe the rears were replaced, but am perplexed by the difference in markings.

If your wheels have offset and rim width stamping on either side of valve stem (oustide of wheel) = genuine. If not = MM aftermarket....

So true:
Checked out the OEM Cup II wheels which were delivered with my MY98; The above detail to include the Porsche part number and a production date.

Both sets of OEM Cup II 7x17 et55 and 9x17 et55 wheels (owned since November, 1997) are stamped similarly. I'm just saying.

Thanks much for the info. I checked and both fronts and rears have the offset and width stamped on the outside on either side of the valve stems.

I have a set of these Mille Miglia 18x8.5 ET52 and 18x10 ET47 replicas. The fronts don't have enough offset for my 928GT, so they are sitting in the garage gathering dust. The rears are on my car, coupled with a pair of OEM 17x9ET70 Cup II's up front.

I can attest the replicas are heavy and soft, yet also apparently brittle. I bought mine pre-owned and in rough condition - the rears had cracks and would leak air, in addition to being bent (the fronts are bent and need refinishing). I had the rears professionally repaired and then refinished. I still think the Cup II (aka 993 Cup) is one of the best looking wheels ever produced by Porsche, and the 18" replica only enhances that look.

The 993 photos are of the wheels a year or so before I purchased them (I knew the owner and had told him to let me know if he ever wanted to sell the wheels).

Leaking air is a common issue with the replicas. Also mine used to get bent just hitting big potholes :-(
