[Engineering Explained] Porsche's New 911 Engine Is Absolutely Brilliant
#31
The original post I commented on he was concerned with the complexity of the new design on the hybrid and concerned about long term maintenance issues.

You say it is the best 911 car as you add that you are not convinced?
I agree. We will know soon as the new 2025 911 hybrids are soon to released to the critics and owners. It sure must be perfect, or the stuff will hit the fan. WTF was wrong on the current cars? Nothing.
It's a higher bar on the new and very expensive new cars,

It's a higher bar on the new and very expensive new cars,
Example 1 of faster not being better --
718 4 cylinder was faster ,,, many missed the NA of the 981 ... power delivery was off .. Porsche finally corrected it and went out with the 4.0 , Spyder, and RS
Example two -
The 996 was supposed to be the modern solution to the 993 and it wasn't . Despite having a good 7 year run it never became known for greatness , It was faster . It was not better .
When the .2 arrived with the bug eye lights the outcry led to the a much mire traditional 997 , To this day the 997 was the last of the small platform , the last 6 speed manual (before the 7 speed mess (which again is coveted here ) , and the last Gt1 engine .
There are very notable 991 and 992 cars . The most remembered will, be the GT cars . The rest are still red hot but ultimately wont ever be a classic .
That didnt stop me from loving my last two GTS cars but good luck removing the water pump from within the engine or replacing that battery from this car.
Speaking of which this is not only a different PDK it also is a lithium battery constantly adding and withdrawing energy and the risk of a lithium fire and it was seen in the boat sinking . This is a first year model and dont even think of how much it costs to replace the battery . when that warranty is done this car will have long evolved . Lets see my dealership offered me 130K for a 173K 992.1 GTS , They will, offer 100 for a 200K hybrid two years from now . Fortunately I sold it privately and the .1 had no reliability issues .
A lot of people do say "never buy a first year model" . The fanboys never hear it .

Weird antagonistic takes on this thread. FWIW, I am a fan of this Youtuber's videos, also a mechanical engineer, designed and built a formula SAE car in college and see positives and negatives in the current batch of 992.2s. That said, I'm not interested in an automatic but that's a personal, subjective preference. For those who want one of these GTS / base Carreras, good for you, no objection from me!
The only thing I do take objection to is ipse's contention that every 911 sounds like ****. I have 4 and the only one that doesn't sound great is the 992.1 and it's not that bad (after getting a tune that removes the farts and crackles anyway). My 993 has a very cool, low rumble that I enjoy especially at low rpms (preferably reflecting against a close wall) and the GT3s are amazing high rev screamers. I'd put them up against a lot of other engines and that includes my flat plane crank V8 F355.

I post pictures of all of my cars related to this thread. It seems most engineers can't post pictures? They use a paid YouTuber?

Perhaps regen through braking but it's a plug-in. Short Google search shows that it's got a two-speed gearbox, an e-motor with up to 201bhp, and an electronically controlled differential on the rear axle.

I never said "best" . I said "faster:" . That is not necessarily better ,

doesn't say anything about it making juice.
IIRC Porsche said their new e-turbo will produce 4kw of power?
Also I noticed from the picture that MBZ e-turbo is using a wastegate, and I recall one of the Porsche spokespeople talking about the difficulty of controlling the new e-turbo with just software and the load placed on it by the generator instead of a conventional wastegate.

EDIT:
“As soon you go off the throttle, we are able to use the energy of the turbocharger turbine speed to get energy back into the battery. This is why we call it Formula 1 technology.”

I remember reading that the MB unit also generated power. I would need to look it up.
EDIT: Google is your friend

I think maybe there is still more going on with the Porsche unit, as I believe it doesn't just generate power off throttle.

I lost a lot of trust on this guy on his brake pad video which is basically an ad. That video is absolutely disgusting and he try to hide the fact that he is just being paid to promote a brand.
A while ago he also talked about how great PSCB is, and I have first hand experience on that and PSCB absolutely sucks. It squeal like crazy way more than PCCB and it is so expensive to replace making it cheaper to replace the entire system to steel brake.
Right now I just take his video as an entertainment, like any YouTube video. He like any other YouTuber would say whatever to get views.
