well a tactrix is only 200 bucks and the subscription can be as little as 17 bucks a pop.

Unlike a hacked PIWIS it is actually a "proper" solution as well.

Wow I stirred up quite the hornet's nest asking this question about how to reset the nag light. Right to repair, the Porsche connect app on our cell phones, custom programming on a dedicated laptop, Chinese OBD gadgets...it's all there. I'm just a simple guy, smart enough not to get ripped off by a stealership when the oil change is so simple, but not technically savvy enough to follow this thread to a plan of action I can be sure will reset the reminder without any risk to the car's systems.

Is there anyone following this thread that can boil it down for me? Mine is a 2021 C2S.

My only "editorial" takeaway from reading through this thread is that this is why we need to have robust right to repair laws on a Federal level which require companies like Porsche to let us reset our oil change intervals with the infotainment system without jumping through all these hoops. The car belongs to me, it's my property, and if I choose not to do oil changes or document them properly, I will be held accountable by the free market when I come to sell the vehicle. What the dash says is irrelevant - it's what service work was actually done and documented that counts.

Does your 2021 have PCM5 or 6?

You'd think the answer to the PCM version would be here, right? Anywhere else I should look?

If anyone wants to pick up a tactrix Openport 2.0 and give it a try, I'll buy it off you if it doesn't work. Mine is super old and I was thinking about replacing it anyway.

Hit me up first though, I don't need 20 of these things.

To answer your question in the simplest manner is:

1) Find an Indie who will do it for you
or
2) Locate someone near you who has the tool to perform this task
or
3) Buy the software/hardware and DIY if your car doesn't support doing it via the PCM

I think with this and while waiting someone who will actually do this on a 992 2020-2022 or if it's only available for newer models, please post. For the rest let's keep your political and other thoughts to yourself as they're irrelevant to the question asked. You want to buy the software? buy it. You don't then don't. We don't care what your political or other views are on the where or how this software or hardware originates.

Thank you

Yes. You have a 2021 992 with PCM v. 5, correct? Full circle back before the PIWIS clone hijack…….AS MENTIONED BY TOMX4 IN POST #4, go pay $373 for an Autel 808. Bluehighways has posted a step-by-step write up on here (Thx BH!) Free shipping. Will do OBD2 on all your cars including special functions on 992 including oil nag light reset. Watch for sales and sometimes available for $350. Mine works on Porsche 992, Toyotas, Ford and Nissan. And No risk of screwing around and bricking your ECU either. If you are just interested in oil nag light reset and are not considering a PIWIS clone, ignore the rest of the thread…..

And you are also correct that some just drive ignoring the nag light to save $350. Your car; your call.

"We" is the Forum and the discussion centers on resetting an oil warning light.

To answer your mail above, yes. I'm interested in hearing your technical views not your politics. Stick to the topic please. Thanks

There is no politics, there are countries we have extradition treaties with and there are ones we don't. The people who get hacked and have their identity / life savings or worse stolen from them take this type of thing VERY seriously. Everyone should take this very seriously....

The message I sent for context:

"I want to know why you think it's a good idea to promote people sending money to hackers in adversarial nations who we have been at cyberwar with for decades? Telling people to plug known hacked equipment into their 100k+ internet connected computer on wheels is insane. "They are nice, helpful, and let us do things we shouldn't be able to" is not an acceptable answer. Social engineering is hacker 101.

Clearly I have threatened the hacked piwis hustle.

- Mike"

I had a career in I.T. You are getting my technical views.....

Yes, many of us on this forum had the upgrade performed early last year. Porsche put out a dealership campaign to upgrade the software, but it does require a ‘22-up I believe. The 2020-2021 had older hardware making it incompatible with PCM V6.

The absence of color in the GUI and the larger number of icons is what identifies a V5.0 to me.

This thread confirms what I have known for some time now.

Going to the dealer may be more expensive, but it's mentally taxing and just easier.

For me, that's priceless.

It’s only easier because it’s purposefully made more difficult.
