Getting dealers to reset the oil change nag light with proof of oil change
#16
That would have happened already if it were. This is how it's been with many different cars for a while now. It's not a new Porsche thing. It would be an issue if Porsche prevented third parties from offering tools that can reset it but that's not the case.

So Mike is saying you can reset this via the PCM?? Where?

Yeah, it's the difference between "right to repair" and "right to document"

Rusnak Porsche wanted to charge me $1500 for service (oil change and cabin filter). I changed the $70 cabin filter myself in 20 minutes and ordered the oil kit from Suncoast Porsche for around $140. Oil change is so simple on this car, I wanted to do it myself but sadly there is no way around the oil change light. Luckily my mechanic has a system that's capable of resetting the oil light so I took the car to him for an oil change.
That $1500 service cost me $330 using exactly the same Genuine Porsche parts that the dealer would have used. I love my 911 but the dealer service is absolute robbery. I hate that "if you can afford a Porsche, you can afford to get finessed on service" mentality that these dealerships have so them not reseting the light does not surprise me one bit.
As others have mentioned, probably makes sense to get the Autel system (I might do this too) as it will keep coming in handy for oil changes.

It's reasons like these are why I advocate pirating software that are gatekept from the consumers.
I'm going to try to get PIWIS III installed on my ThinkPad for ****s and giggles, and buy the hardwareto help neighboring owners clear their code.

Don't care about my 7$ or the lawyers getting paid..just want to be able to clear service reminders like I can on my other cars. Even my buddy with an Aston can reset his own oil light through the infotainment system. Shouldn't need a special devise for that.

You don't really need to pirate anymore*. Anyone can register a PCSS account for free and subscribe in hour/day/week/month/year chunks. It really doesn't take that long to get what you need from the system. I'm sure prices fluctuate but the cost for an hour is very reasonable (IMO).

Right to repair actually won, PCSS and Virtual tester are Porsche's way of complying
"PCSS (Porsche Central Service System; formerly TSI) is an application that provides access to technical information on this website for authorized companies within the meaning of Article 4(2) of Commission Regulation No. 1400/2002 or its successor regulations as well as Regulations EU 2018/858 and the similar country-specific RMI (Repair and Maintenance Information) requirements. In the United States, the use of PCSS TSI and the Porsche Virtual Tester comply with the requirements of the Right to Repair (R2R) Act and its associated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and any successive regulations. If you also want to carry out diagnostics on the vehicle, please note the information below for diagnostic access via Porsche’s Virtual Tester."

I wouldn't expect them to be singing about it from the mountain top though...

I see alot of different diagnostic systems mentioned here - Autel, icarsoft, PIWIS (which is apparently a chinese factory knockoff system?) - it seems like the icarsoft is the most basic, can it reset other service minders in addition to the oil?

The PIWIS people around here are getting is a Chinese clone knock-off. The software has been hacked to not require a subscription, and what ever else the CCP wanted in the recipe.

iCarSoft will not. Extensive thread on this already. See post #4.

I e-mailed Autel awhile back asking if the 808S will work on a '24 992 and they said it would not, is that incorrect?
