I’d bet they end up doing both. The manual transmission market of enthusiasts are the ones who are generally more invested and willing to pay more. So, Porsche is going to tie them to expensive models (Turbo/GT3) or more limited models near end of production (T).
This way they don’t have to mix parts during most of production, they force the enthusiast to take a much more expensive car if they want the manual and can afford it (Turbo/GT3), and they boost sales near end of production (T).

And to @silversurfer6 ’s point, the RWD Turbo with a manual does appear to be coming. Porsche will not announce the special 911 products until 2026 to the best I can tell.

This s a good review. Worth watching. Covers some of the actual reasons behind the technology, and explains the layout of the technical components.

Does anyone have an idea of when the new Targa 4 (base) will be coming!?

Also, out of curiosity, any details forthcoming on the Turbo cars beyond the RWD manual? Will they use the 3.6 liter as well?
Isn't it in the black box on top of the intercooler? That lines up with the intake side of the turbo (check the engine cutaways for more detail), as well as the blowoff valve venting back into the airbox to retain some of the charge.

I hope they're right but, even if the T returns, it will still be a shame to have only one non-GT (iow, Carrera lineup) power level available with a manual vs three in the 992.1 (assuming the 992.2 "S will be a hybrid" rumors are true).

So, I'm optimistic that three pedals will come back on the non-hybrid models as they fill out the lineup. I just hope at least a couple of those are regular variants and not super-expensive limited-edition models, too. I know the take rate is lower overall, but it's the transmission favored by a lot of Porsche's most loyal fans. You don't keep building your fanbase by limiting less cutting-edge options like that to rare models, IMHO.

...And here is a professional design analysis. Pretty much corroborates the consensus of this forum....

In savagegeese video, there is the cut out of the engine. Man the new catalytic converter and the muffler is going to be very challenging to replace with an aftermarket option. They are just extremely bulky and closely integrated.

This is a great video to watch if anyone hasn’t. Looking at the 3.6 makes my wallet hurt. Good lord it looks complex

992.2 C2S - I predict 3.6L 48V Hybrid PDK only and ICE only is gone. This is why they kept the base 992 around (Upgraded to Turbo Intercooler and .1 GTS turbo) or else they could have just eliminated the base model and force everyone into an S that wants a manual transmission ICE car.

Personally, the lag is an inherent part of TT engines. The T-hybrid may eliminate that, but at what cost? It’s essentially removing character out of the car. Not only sacrificing the manual option. Porsche is essentially creating a synthetic experience. Similar feeling to PDCC. I personally prefer a more natural driving experience in my 911.

I agree with you about the PDCC, maybe they have a PCM option to turn it down to a minimum intervention level, if not off completely.
