Boring is a matter of what you do with your car. If you're going worry about getting dirty and only take it only short trips to Cars & Coffee, sure, boring AF.
I put more than 35k miles on my 2020 992C4S before I traded it in. I took that car on epic adventures and beat on it relentlessly. I drove it in the desert, drifted it through unplowed snow, and pitched it sideways on many occasions. Heck, I ate Chick Fil A and Taco Bell in it. After all that, it still looked like new, because a Porsche is not some fragile thing. I am happy that its new owner is a RennLister and approaching the car the same way that I did.
If you really want to enjoy your 992, drive like you would a beater. It's spectacular when you get past the fantasy nonsense and enjoy it as it is meant to be experienced... driven hard and relentlessly. That's when it makes the happy sounds. It's when everything about the car makes sense.
I have a 992 S manual also. Hate to say it there were times I felt as you did.
Didn’t feel that way with my previous 997s coupe and even less so with my 997s cab
The car is Very refined from the factory.
I even started contemplating buying a 993 to get more connected and excited to drive.
Must say though, a few mods later and my perspective is completely changed.
Started with a numeric shifter, then an M-engineering tune, and now the icing on the cake that I think made the biggest difference ( because the car is fast enough stock) were the 200 cell cats and Kline exhaust. All three together and the car is sublime!
Driving a fast car slow is not much fun, even less so when there is zero drama. Try an exhaust and even in town driving 5-10 mph over the speed limit will be rewarding. It’s changed my mind 100%
911g8tness,
I was feeling exact same way about car and I put 200 cell HFC with PSE and was still not impressed. I then ordered Kline iconel rear section. I should have it within 2 weeks.
I was happy to read your happy with results on yours. Question though: are you running exhaust valves open full time via M tune? That’s my next step the M-tune stage 2.
I had a 996 C4S so I know exactly what you are saying. I wouldn't call it boring but certainly doesn't require the same level of engagement to extract the performance. Reality is that if you are looking for that feeling in a car today the 718 Spyder/GT4 are the equivalent. I drove a GT4 and it reminded me a lot of my old C4S.
Save yourself some $$ and pick up a Spyder and you may be happier. (If I didn't need back seat I'd have a manual spyder)

Boring? Nope.
Taco Bell in the car??? What about mud butt on the leather?

I had a GT4 and I still think the older cars have a different feel that you can’t replicate. It’s the steering and big greenhouse with low cowl and belt line. The older cars feel like they are going faster than they really are. This is especially true once you get into the air cooled era.
The GT4 actually felt a little underpowered to me, which was frustrating.
The 992 is very refined which actually accentuates the dual personality of this model.
It is a very good DD but when you push her you still have to show some respect because She can bite but to get to that point you will probably get arrested

So true. For all the rubber on the road and all the nannies under the hood there’s still a friggin big lump of metal hanging out the back. As the saying goes, all is good…until it isn’t. Been there, had that moment of truth (on the track of course….).
You need to visit a PEC, get an instructor to tell you how far you can push a 992, tell you constantly to go faster, brake harder, accelerate earlier.
They are phenomenally accomplished motor cars, very forgiving yet controllable on the limit.
I have to say doing a 1/2 day PEC, it was punishing physically and mentally for me, but so much fun.
You want something that floats your boat more, isn’t as refined and catches you out if you are napping…. 992 911 isn’t for you I’m afraid. You need something BMW M2 like… something more hooligan and blunt than scalpel sharp and refined.
Next thing you're going to tell us is that you also burp in your 911.
Now then, I've been known to blow my nose in my 911. I also have learned to carry a roll of TP in the car. I do this for nasal drip and just in case any flatulence was not as expected.
