Honest Opinions - 992 GTS vs. 992 4 GTS

Hi All:
After trying for about a year to secure a GTS Coupe allocation with no success, I've managed to snag a September 4 GTS allocation. I initially turned it down, but have changed my mind, given how difficult it is to get any GTS allocation, let alone the RWD coupe, which I have come to realize is extremely popular and who the heck knows when future allocations will arrive. I'm in the southwest - North Texas area. I do not plan to track my car. Can those knowledgeable folks out there give me some pros/cons between the RWD and AWD versions and any thoughts? We rarely get any snow/ice here, and I have another vehicle available to me for those conditions. I've done a bit of research and it appears that Porsche's AWD system is more rear-biased than previous AWD cars I've owned through the years, including several Audi S models and BMW X-Drive models. But the 4 is heavier than the coupe. Thoughts? Opinions?
Thanks so much.

Yes- it will slightly be heavier but you probably will not even be able to tell. The 4 GTS is also slightly faster because of the extra traction but I doubt you will be able to notice, as well.

I heard if you wait two weeks, allocations will be abundant at under MSRP.

I was recently given a C4S allocation out of the blue which I initially turned down but then decided to keep. Yes the car is a little heavier, but the AWD system is pretty transparent on the 992 and the reviews I read were positive. I also built a lighter weight car with 4 ways, no sunroof, manual trans, etc. Compared to a 2S with 18 ways, PDK, and roof it is similar if not less weight. I’m not worried and I don’t think you should be either. The GTS is a great car regardless of the driven wheels…go for it.

I'm sure you will enjoy both versions. Other things that you may notice are the AWD version has a slightly smaller frunk and you cannot get the extended fuel tank, but it's not like the stanard fuel tank is small by any means.

Frunks are the same on AWD and RWD. True on the extended range fuel tank.

Keep the 4GTS - no question. Even back to back between the cars, the differences are subtle and I’m not convinced aren’t just in my head.
Porsche AWD has always been excellent. No way would I abandon a hard to find allocation over RWD vs AWD in these cars.
My current car (TTS) has AWD and I love the thing, FWIW.

If I had a choice I'd choose the GTS, but you don't have a choice. You either get the 4 GTS or nothing. Seems like a pretty easy decision to me.

I would choose the 4! RWD 911's stick very good, but AWD is a vast performance improvement IMO. Ive had 4 RWD 911s before I went back into a sedan. But if and when I come back to a 911. I will only be interested in a AWD variant.

I’ve had 991.2 C4S and have a 992 GTS. As others have said, get the 4 GTS. The AWD is going to keep you planted, yes it’s rear biased, but as soon as the rears have a hint of losing grip, the fronts kick in. All this means is if you want to slide the car, you’re going to have to put traction control (PSM) into sport mode and really get on it - I would not suggest doing this on the street, but only mention for comparison purposes. Likewise the mechanic grip in the RWD is pretty high as well, so while you don’t have to be at the same speed to induce a slide, you’re not that far off from an AWD car IMHO.
Also, for the power levels of these cars, the weight difference is negligible.

I just got my 4 GTS, and this car is a blast. It does oversteer if pushed, and in the rain the car is sure footed and a blast. I love the steering feel and the launch control is awesome. If I had to do it again, I would choose the 4 gts again.
