I live in North Texas as well and my last car was a 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS.

If you are not going to track your car, I would go ahead get the C4 GTS. It’ll be great for city driving and bad weather driving.

If you had planned on tracking the car, I wouldn’t necessarily tell you to NOT get it. However, if a C2 GTS was available, I would have told you to lean that direction.

The weight difference has little affect on track. Mine was terrific. However, it does have more understeer, which did have an affect on my driving style.

I say go for it and enjoy it.

Yes, the weight difference is a non-issue. A RWD 911 with a full extended range fuel tank weighs more than an AWD car with a partial tank of gas.

Let's be clear.
Fact: C4GTS curb weight is 3,536 lbs. C2GTS curb weight is 3,433 lbs. So, a C4 weighs 103 lbs. more than a C2, most of which is on the front wheels.
Fact: Gasoline weighs ~5.6 lbs./gal.
The ONLY way the weight of a C4 could be as light as that of a C2 would be if the C2 was completely full of fuel (say 20 gal. @ 5.6 lbs./gal. = ~110lbs.) AND the C4 was completely empty, in which case it could not be driven.

Agree in most cases, a negligible difference in driving dynamics. But on a track, weight and it's distribution will make a difference, but probably only to expert drivers. Maybe this is why RS cars are C2??

Need to take other factors into account for each personal situation.

Extended range tank is 23.7gal though, so you could have a little in the C4 tank. And he said “partial” tank, so I’m not sure what you’re trying to clarify.

I think the point was a car’s weight can change with how much gas is in it by more than the C2/C4 difference.

And that’s to say nothing of passengers…or even weight difference of owners……..

Default Extended range gas tank

I was told that the extended range fuel tank is not available on the 992 4 GTS. I would have preferred having that as an option but evidently there isn't enough room?

I chose to get a 4 GTS. It's deeply impressive in all conditions and gets me shockingly quickly from point to point.

The combo of 4wd, PTV and RAS gives sharp, accurate turn in, along with stable and relaxed highway manners. Not an easy balance to achieve.

I also offset the slightly heavier steering at low speeds with Power Steering Plus. People sometimes look down on that option but along with the RAS and FAL, it makes the car that much more usable in the city.

I believe most, if not all, reviewers mentioned a noticeable difference in the steering and control feel of the rwd gts vs the 4. I think no amount "weight adjustment" like having almost no fuel or anything else would change that.
So you either opt for a quicker 0-60 times and any weather driving in the 4 or the more connected to the road feeling/steering in the 2.

I have watched every review and agree they will say there is a steering difference, maybe less understeer, etc but I have never seen a review where the feeling of "control" was better in the RWD car. The feeling of control and being planted will be better in the 4 GTS as you have all 4 wheels pulling you out of corners. Now if you are talking about "control" from the perspective of sliding the rear around, steering with your right foot, etc. then I can buy in When I read your comment on "control feel", I would suggest 95% of drivers will feel more planted and more in control in the 4.

You're completely right - I didnt know how to properly say it haha, but by "control" I meant how fun the car feels vs how safe it feels. The 4 will definitely feel more "in control" or safe, while the 2 will be more playful and to some enthusiasts more enjoyable.

I was lucky enough to get to pick, and I have a rwd GTS with manual on order. But if i could only get a 4, I would not pass it up. They are all amazing in their own right!

You're likely right that many drivers will feel more in control in an AWD car but inherently front axle feel is compromised vs. the equivalent RWD car. Yes the front wheels 'pull' you round a corner but only to a point. Ultimately an AWD car has no more mechanical grip than the equivalent RWD one, they just use some of the available grip up front transmitting power when the cars systems calculate it's appropriate. Then there's the effects of weight transfer as you accelerate, the admittedly small effect of torque being applied through the front wheels, etc. All of which transmits to the driver through the steering wheel. Take all that away and what you feel through the steering wheel is strictly what the wheels and tires are doing as they traverse the surface, brake etc.

Is this more or less 'control'? Yes and no, depending I think on how conscious the driver is about what is actually going on.

Driven a fast RWD 911 for 10k miles and comparing it now to my 4S there is a massive difference in confidence when pushing the car harder with AWD. Both cars 450hp. In a way you are allowed to be a bit more careless with a 4 because it can save your butt. Obviously in the wet the 4 again is the better option. Front wheels only doing about 10% until they are asked for more so you still get the feel of a RWD 911. If the steering is heavier on a 4 then that would be a positive in my opinion.

OP here. I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate each and every reply! Some great points made here. I have decided to accept the 4 GTS allocation and I placed a deposit on it over the weekend. Now the wait begins...

Thanks again all.
