2022 Allocation

My SA has told me that it's quarterly (at least from Porsche). However, it can change because dealers swap among each other. So even though you don't have an allocation today and nothing comes from Porsche for a few months, trades may happen that bring your allocation to the dealership and on to you.

Hey all,
I put a deposit in July 2021 for an (what I thought) was an allocation for a spring 2022 992s. I never heard from the dealer, so I emailed the sales rep yesterda. He responded to tell me that there is now a 10% markup on msrp. My paperwork says the deal is for msrp. Has anyone come across this?

Depending on your paperwork, you may or may not have a leg to stand on. Even if you have an iron clad deal at MSRP, you are still kind of screwed from a practical perspective. If you make a stink about the MSRP, I would assume that you would magically stay on the list and never get an allocation. I wouldn't say a thing until I had an allocation and then you can always plead your case based on your paperwork and even escalate up to management/ownership. However, I would not count on having any success, so you might want to see if you can get on another list at a dealership that is still holding to MSRP and hope they still will be when you get an allocation.
I am sure this is not the answer you were hoping for and there are threads upon threads about how this is BS and a terrible business practice - all of which are correct in my mind. But none of that changes the reality of the situation. Right now, there are long waiting lists, a significant shortage of cars (not just Porsches) the likes of which has never before been seen and fewer and fewer dealers holding to MSRP. All of which results in a seller's market on steroids. So you pretty much need to decide if you are going to fall into the "I won't pay a premium - I will just wait" camp or the "It pisses me off, but I want my car now so I will just suck it up, swallow my pride and pay the premium" camp. Neither is right or wrong.

I am not sure there is such a thing as an "allocation month" as that would imply that they can predict what allocations they get and when. In reality, allocations are much more reactive than proactive. More so these days when no dealers know what allocations they will get or when.
Once your dealer receives their allocations, they will match them up with their customers. Then you place and order so yo have an "order date". At that point you will get an (estimated/projected) Freeze Date, Build Date and Delivery Date.
I suspect that your SA is saying that he/she believes that they will have an allocation to give to you in July. So, if you placed your order in July, you would likely get a freeze date around September and a build date in October/November making it a MY 23 car. With that said, I would be very cautious about relying on any predictions as to when allocation will become available.

Its not so much when you get an allocation thats determines model year its when the car is built. Although I seem to remember the configurator changed to model year 22 in the June / July time frame.

So I know every news site is reporting a car shortage, but if you look at the sales figures, is there really a shortage?
