My question is are they really that fragile or is just a few people having bad luck. Even though I can afford it I hate to waste money.

That would depend on where you live and how you use the car. If you have never had the situation occur on a car with steel brakes, it's not likely to happen on a car with PCCBs. If it's something that's happened to you on a car with steelies, then it's just as likely to happen on one with PCCBs. In my location and driving my 911 year round, I expect it could happen at any time as it has been a relatively frequent occurrence throughout my driving life. As a point of reference, a buddy just bought an RS6 Avant and was a little bummed that he couldn't find one on the lot with ceramic brakes. Turns out on the drive back to the dealer to get the winter tires mounted last November (car had just a couple of hundred miles), he picked up a rock between pad and rotor. He texted me VERY relieved he didn't have the carbon ceramic brakes.

Only you can judge whether the risk is high or low based on your situation and whether the risk is something you're OK with.

Lived in MN for 17 years. More rocks and gravel on the winter roads there than most. NEVER a rock in the rotors. 15k miles on AMG with CCB's and never a rock. The number of vehicles with CCB' across multiple manufacturers model lines is not small. Past and present. This forum is such a minuscule representation of the whole. Why can't a nail be put in this topic. They are superior in every way except cost. If this is not a concern. Get them! I will not have another vehicle without them. You are probably 1000 times more likely to total the car than have a rock in the rotor ruin your day.

They’re not fragile.

For frame of reference - I drive my car everyday to work for the past couple of years. It has been raining almost every day for the past 2 months. Brutal conditions (though not snow, I’ll admit). Zero issues.

OHH MY. This is pretty much the build I have waiting on allocation for C2S. Thank you SOOO much for posting this, confirms ANY hesitation on the GB or Silver wheels/PCCB. It's perfect. Question for you, is that a "S' Model with the SPASM? It sits really well and no nasty front wheel gap...

@aw305 - PCCB and Silver wheels = Perfect
Any feedback on the Gentian Blue or the SportDesign front or rear kit? That paint color is polarizing, so really love it (like me) and some dislike for keeling it clean. Curious your thoughts as an owner. Living here in CT the roads are horrible and I'm thinking I may skip the SportDesign kit to help with clearance but go with the Sport Package 10mm lower SPASM. Do you have the Front Axle lift?

I recently bought a 5 year old TTS with 44k kms on - the rotors look brand new - no scratches and have negligible wear, the pads are 85% original thickness, they perform beautifully and don’t squeal - I’m totally sold on them.

Pccb on base 911 would give you the most brake upgrade for about same money across all 911 trims, it’s actually a good deal albeit the heavy price

I didn't notice the scoring when I picked up my CPO GT4, but it seems visible when on the showroom floor as well when going back through my pics. No scoring on the rears.
