Anyone regret not ordering the worlds best tranny, the PDK?
Yeah I know, the 7 speed is just wonderful and is more engaging up and down the rev line, etc, but the fact that it’s a full half second slower than the PDK is bothersome! And it’s not like one can’t go to manual mode with the PDK. In the more expensive 911s it’s faster at under 4 seconds so for me that’s acceptable but at 4.5 seconds off the line at a light, and we all know what I mean, in todays world of automobiles just is too slow for a 2024 911 Porsche $126,000+ MSRP. If it were a classic then it’s a different story. My wife’s KIA SUV with a jump off the line buries you zero to sixty.
So I’d like to hear from this group of T soon to be owners, how many stayed with the 7 speed and how many secretly chose the no cost option of PDK? At a cost of free it’s the bargain if the century IMHO.
As a disclaimer I’ll admit to having my first 3 M3s in stick configuration, the last one an M3 competition in DCT. It was wonderful, the best I’d ever experienced till I test drove a Porsche PDK. And yes I did test drive the 7 speed first before placing my order. It reminded me of my very first stick in my Datsun 200SX, fun but slow.

Ice Grey Metallic, nice choice! Not many picked but as good as it gets showing off the 911 lines.

Its personal. There are no wrong answers. Buy what excites you more. If 0-100 bothers you, PDK is the answer.
I had both, and PDK is awesome, but in this case, MT7 presses my inner caveman-buttons.

I also realize everyone has their own preference and wholly respect what others decide for their own build. Try both and check the box that makes you happy.

I have the PDK in my Macan S and have driven 911's and Caymans with it. It's a great transmission, yes, but the difference in engagement is night and day. I would not have ordered a new 911 if I couldn't get it with a stick. When the base 992 Carrera was announced with no manual option I just figured I'd never order a new 911. I like the base engine. Without a stick, though, it just isn't as engaging. If it's fast, I want to be part of why it is fast. I want to slot some perfect downshifts and have the engine (and its cacophony of glorious sounds) where I want it when I want it. Sure. Not as fast. Not as precise. But I want to drive and not be driven. If I want to be driven, I prefer taking the train

But can you tell me the differences between using the PDK in manual mode vs shifting gears with the 7 speed, other than the obvious 3rd peddle? Emotionality up shifts and down shifts feel similar. I have driven both the standard 7 and the 8 PDK, and found one just as enjoyable as the other. With the edge going to the PDK for daily traffic but see how wonderful the standard 7 can be in the twisties, the PDK was well. Like I said above, I’ve had many years with a stick. Maybe not enough time with the Porsche 7 speed? I truly await yours or others answer to this question I pose above? THX -ds

Well, this has happened within the last hour. My last change was approx 2.5 hours prior to it freezing.
Edit: The dates have certainly ping-ponged around. Varying anywhere from a week later. If I am recalling correctly, Oct 4th was my original freeze date when I received my T allocation at the end of July.

This is an enthusiast forum, not general public, so you can expect unconscious bias towards driving experience. In real life, PDK outsells MT, at least in my part of the woods. I personally think that is fine. Makes my 992T more bespoke, like well tailored suit.
Also, if you look at the demographic of the 911 buyers, many guys couldn't be bothered with shifting stick. Last summer, on my tour to Italy, I stayed at a hotel on a polo club. A very elegant man got of a horse and in his best English, with obvious French accent said: "That is a beautiful car! What model is it?" I replied "992 Carrera T, with manual transmission". He grimace and replied "Why?!" like I ruined his dream... I thought, that is an average consumer
