2021 Delivery Date?

Amazing! How long do you think it takes to actually certify a new car? Hours? Days? Is this just waiting a month for someone to get around to doing a 5 minute test?
Separately, where did you see the stat on the 2021 certifications?

Every now and then, when I get disgusted at how long this entire process takes, I have serious thoughts about cancelling my order. I ordered my 992 on June 4, 2020, and still waiting on an allotment, then build, then ship, then certification, blah, blah. I don’t expect to take delivery until January/Feb of 2021. Is this Porsche’s way of getting you to buy what’s on the dealer’s lot?

If you download the EPA spreadsheet from their website, you can see that they list something like 385 cars as approved for 2021, vs a total of over 2,000 cars that were approved for 2020. I believe that data is from July so would assume the 385 has increased since then. I find it very strange that VW certified the majority of their other brands but not Porsche, although I don't see Skoda on the list either...

“....It’s just a car”
Damn, and here I’ve been telling all my neighbors and co-workers that the 992 is the answer to life, itself. I may have to re-think my position?

In fairness, mine moved pretty quickly. I ordered at the end of June and the car is already 100 miles from my house. Just seems odd for a car to sit on a lot for a month for something like this.

Luck, or did you line someone’s pocket? Maybe I should have left a bigger deposit?

I've got a 2021 911 sitting at the port in Davisville and my dealer is saying they won't be able to deliver until mid-month. Does anyone have a 2021 yet? For those with orders that have already shipped, what is the earliest delivery dates you are hearing? I know the Siem Confucius was the 2nd boat to arrive here with 2021s onboard--a bunch of cars have been in Davisville for 3 weeks already. Definitely aware of the emission approval issue but wanted to know what others are hearing in terms of timing.
Kills me to think of it sitting out there for days in the pouring rain!

Reminds me of a scene from the 1970 movie M.A.S.H.
. Dago Red: Well, no. But I can tell you how serious it is. He and the boys were playing poker and one of the boys turned to him and asked him for a ruling on one of the hands. And Walt said, he said ''What does it matter? It's only a game.''
. Hawkeye Pierce: Painless said ''What does it matter? It's only a game''? Poker, only a game?
So-o-o-o-o-o . . . . You're not a Dentist are you?

My SA just told me that "the computer is showing 9/30" for CARB certification. Sheesh. Although it works well for me (I'm traveling the second half of September and it would have been tight to get it delivered and PPF'd and ceramic coated before my scheduled departure date) it is irritating in principle and for all the folks who could/would take delivery sooner.

Here is a link to all 2021 California CARB Certified Engines/Vehicles.
CARB calls them "Executive Orders" or EO's. As of August 31, 2020 all of the approved 2021 EO's were added on June 29th. There are no EO's for Porsche at this time.
FWIW, CARB usually lists Porsche cars as "DR. ING H.C.F. PORSCHE AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT"
AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT translates to "Stock Company"

It's essentially simultaneous. In most cases the EPA accepts CARB's data. Even then, CARB's data doesn't actually come from CARB directly. That said, seeing a CARB E.O. almost always means it will be EPA approved.
Most compliance testing is done by the manufacturer themselves (if they have an approved facility for this purpose) or via a third party. For example, GM used to (and may still) run an emissions test lab in Van Nuys, California where they did testing on many vehicles other than those manufactured by General Motors.
