The 991 was way too overloaded when it comes to buttons and the interior look was way to "machinery" for me. It was just a too busy car.
Then the 992 came out and I was happy. Calm interior, not too busy, quite modern inside but still hanging with the original
Are you kidding? The 992 interior and it's 60" LCD screens look far busier.

Further, I never had an issue seeing all the gauges in any of my other cars. On top of that, until the 992 I've never seen it mentioned.

When I got in the car, it stood out immediately.

The 992 in the guise it's been released in so far is hardly a 911 anymore. It's a mini Panamera.

^^on my third 991 series and I could easily see the gauges in all three cars

Don't be put off - its your car to enjoy and I'm sure it will tick the boxes for you

Also the 9A2 is a really good engine, very responsive - I preferred the 550Nm/450HP variant in the GTS - it punched well above its weight.

Have you actually sat in the drivers seat of one?

"But no matter how I manipulate the supremely comfortable 18-way adaptive Sport seats or the tilt/telescopic steering column, the thick-rimmed wheel obstructs my view of the displays’ outer edges, which includes the fuel gauge."

Even journalists mention it. It's a thing that I experienced for myself. Sit in the cars and you'll see for yourself.

...I have a 997.2 and a 1987 911 and I can’t see the outer gauges... can’t see them either on the 991s I’ve driven. I’m 5’-10” and fairly average. I know some can, but with my ideal seating position I personally cannot.

For what it’s worth, I’m a 997 owner who skipped the 991 but ordered a 992. I also grew up in the back of seat of 911s and love the old air cooled cars.

Thanks for the review. Sounds like the new infotainment system is a mess. Any comments about the increased size and weight of this car?

I test drove 14 different 911 models (997, 991.1, 991.2 - CPO and new) before ordering the 992. All of them had some gauges slightly blocked by steering wheel from my seating position even with their tiny overlapping dials. The 992 digital dials are bigger, clearer and more spread out, but outside dials (less frequently used info) are hidden behind the large bumps on the GT Steering Wheel. It would be absolutely trivial for Porsche to to modify software to allow the driver to set a dash view option to cram the dials together and make them smaller (like in earlier models) to prevent this problem - I expect they will do so soon based on all the complaints.

Also I for one found the older Porsche models (prior to 992) had very busy interiors in that they were festooned with dozens of buttons everywhere with 1/3 of them blanks, and an appalling infotainment system with a tiny screen. The new models are finally moving forward in this regard with a calmer and more modern interior - no more sea of buttons, bigger and faster reacting screens, more logical menu systems etc. As soon as I saw pictures/video of the 992 interior I decided to get one instead of a new 991.2 (I assumed the actual car and driving experience would be at least as good as all the other 911 models I test-drove which were wonderful).

Here is the digital dash from the Panamera. If Porsche made this view a user selectable option (or even default) then I think people would not complain as much. Note I think the Panamera has a bigger steering wheel so the dials might need to be a bit smaller or overlap more...

The 991.2 has Apple Carplay and does everything infotainment wise brilliantly. Further, once the screen looks like a 1940's television model I can buy the factory radio delete and just remove it completely. Good luck with the "timeless" iGoogle interior on the 992.

Yes, the 991.2 could be better. Would be nice if there was more magnesium and less plastic, and if the buttons were made out of Carbon or something. If they can do it on a cheap Lenovo laptop I don't see why Porsche can't.

The gauge visibility, nubbin, door handles, bacon strips, infotainment system, price, Goodyear tires, lack of manual, costs of services, non standard alcantra headliner all wouldn't keep me from buying a 992.

But, a watered down fun factor and neutered engine sound are non negotiable deal killers.

What are you doing then on the 992 forum?

Haha. Justifying the decision not to buy the new model.
i assume that’s why so many people who don’t like the 992 are here

FWIW, I can’t see all the gauges on my 2018 Panamera. But I never thought that was due to poor design, but more because of my seat position, and steering wheel tilt preference
