The way I rationalize waiting from the time of ordering and putting a deposit down to when I'll actually get the car is short compared to how long I've lusted after a 911-52 years from when my late uncle wheeled in to our driveway in his 911 in 1969. I can wait, I already have.

6 months to a year is a safe bet. My car should be delivered this week (hopefully). It’s been almost a year of waiting.
You could get lucky, but patience is a virtue. 1 year sounds like forever and if I had known in the beginning that it would be a year, I probably would have given up. And yet here we are.
At a certain point, the car no longer seems real. I still have a hard time believing that a real car is going to be delivered. It’s definitely a different experience waiting this long.

Lots of eye-opening stuff going on in this thread. I ordered a Macan S back in 2019 and didn't have ANYTHING close to this level of detail that's going on for a 992... but all was said and done 3 months after I sat down at the dealer and walked through the configuration. Even got a decent amount off MSRP lol.
So I'll admit I haven't read through all 444 pages in here, hoping someone is willing to help me catch up... where I'm currently at, is I just "announced my intent" to order a 992 through my dealer I previously purchased a CPO 991.2 from; I reached out to the same guy who sold me the 991.2 and said I wanted to order a 992 and had some questions, he answered them all and said to send him a configuration with a code, which I did. My understanding is that formally puts me on a waitlist? He also said there are far fewer folks on the waitlist for an S vs GTS, to the tune of about 6-12 months+ difference, so I was fine with an S. He suggested his dealership could probably get me an allocation and maybe even a car to arrive within 6 months (the dealer I ordered the Macan from told me 12-24 months, although they are an admittedly smaller volume dealer).
Reading things on this forum has me highly speculative, though... chip shortages, stop sales on aerokits (which I've decided I would very much want if at all possible)... I've always maintained that I don't have the patience to deal with ordering a car like a 911, where the anticipation would kill me within a couple weeks, let alone a half year or more... and to be honest, reading all this makes it seem pretty hopeless to even bother.
What is the actual reality for ordering a 992? Am I wasting my time? Should I just focus on finding a tolerable spec on the used market? I can will myself through the wait as long as it's finite, and I can get exactly what I want. Just doesn't feel like that's a possibility after some of the stuff I've read on here lately...
Absolutely insane that I have $160k burning a hole in my pocket and it literally feels like the car I want is unattainable. Just... wow.

If you buy a CPO 992, you're going to pay over MSRP. Guaranteed.

Which is precisely the main reason I started building new rather than keep looking for CPO choices that never quite ticked all the boxes. Pay more and be unsatisfied? No way, I'll wait and pay less for new.

Get ready to keep waiting. Like others in this thread, the wait has been long all year. My order was placed with V200 status on April 20. I'm taking delivery at PEC-LA on 12/22. That's about 3 weeks longer than if I had a dealer delivery. But still, 8 months is a long time. When I ordered, TYD said mid-September delivery. That kept getting pushed back. Welcome to the new normal. If you wait for the supply chain and demand to normalize, you're looking at 2 years. If you want the car, then find an allocation, get the best price you can, and then order it.
If you buy a CPO 992, you're going to pay over MSRP. Guaranteed.

Your experience and timeline is the same as mine. With my delivery scheduled for right before Christmas. Interested what you ordered to see if it's similar to mine.

Same here. Mine is also in JAX in port processing. My dealer had checked their system and saw no stop sale indications, so he's optimistic everything will go smoothly.
In my prior experience, the car shows up before TYD is updated, though I think the dealer is emailed once it's on the truck.

I'm due for Benicia and just got assigned the Glovis Chorus! Folks who have received their cars, how accurate are the arrival dates with the export schedule? The schedule says the ship is going to be at Benicia on 11/21. But delivery is still 12/3 as per TYD.

Your dealer delivery date may change once it hits Benicia. Mine did once it hit Baltimore.
