Hi all,

My car entered delivery May 3, and I got the final assembly photo (the one that shows the side of the car) on May 13, 4 days prior to the scheduled production completion date. May 17, which was the scheduled end date, my car disappeared from TYD. It re-appeared May 20h, but now with a production end date of June 27. I'm scheduled for ED July 25, and Porsche is asking me to wait until production complete to plan my trip.

Is this normal experience that a car that's almost done production (per TYD photo) would then get delayed by 1.5 months?

Appreciate the feedback.

Sales guy said he thinks ppf is 10k at the dealership when I asked.
PPF is $10K at your dealer? Does that include ceramic coating afterwards?

No idea. Didn't pry further because I saw examples at the showroom and was not impressed. Looked precut and I saw all the seams at the edges. A friend says tintmax is good I may go there if I decide to do it. Quoted 1600 for front, rockers, hips. 6k full. 750 ceramic.

XPEL Fusion comes with ceramic already applied.

Xpel Ultimate Fusion is the film, and it has no ceramic coating applied. Once the film is installed, you then use Fusion Plus (Xpel's ceramic coating) over top of the film.

Here’s what I got from Gulf Coast Auto Shield, the leading Xpel shop in Texas:

”Xpel Ultimate Fusion film was launched early in the second quarter of 2023. Ultimate Fusion is different from Ultimate Plus in that it has ceramic coating infused into its top coat. The fact that it is infused into the top coat of the film, and not simply sprayed on top of the film will result in longer life of the ceramic coating compared to simply wiping a coating on top of the film.

I coated my GT500 in late 2022 and the hydrophobics are still as good as the day we applied the film. We also applied this film to my 2024 F250 in December. This vehicle lives outside 100% of the time and does not get washed but maybe once a month. Through 6 months I am extremely pleased with how the film and coating are holding up.

There may be some confusion on because the coating that Xpel sells is called Fusion. You can put Fusion coating on top of the Ultimate Plus film. The results are outstanding, but the ceramic properties will not last as long as they will with the Fusion Plus film. This is likely due to the complexity of making a coating cross link to a urethane without being so aggressive that it mars it. The chemistry for coatings is usually far more aggressive and usually should not be used on film unless it's approved to do so by the coating and film manufacturers that provide the product(s) that you have.”

That's a good idea actually to see some examples of their work. The whole pre-cut thing was the subject of a long thread here, you see edges yes but the flipside is that for a wrapped edge they make cuts to the film on your paint surface, and remove the headlights et al.

Where I get my PPF, they add a margin to the pre-cut patterns before printing/cutting. The software has an option to automatically add this additional material to wrap the edges.

Yeah the one I'm considering also uses computer cut patterns so no scoring on the paint. They say they cover the edges even with precut. I'll probably stop by to see their work. Think they use regular xpel though. This is their response when I emailed them.
We use computer cut patterns so nothing is cut on the vehicle.. and we extend the patterns to cover all accessible edges and corners. Feel free to stop by anytime at our Great Neck location and check out some of our work. We also offer free loaner vehicles.

Yeah. There's a bunch of places. The problem is knowing which are good. Some doctors at work also use 631 coatings and detailing dynamics. As of now I'm undecided. None of my other cars are wrapped and I just touch up with dr colorchip.

For those on the SFL Conductor getting off at Davisville, I was visiting my dealer today, and was told that Porsche's computer shows that the cars will be unloading tomorrow, for what that's worth. All indications are that I should have my car by the end of next week. Fingers crossed!
