Porsche is somewhat designing cars to cater to its most emerging and biggest markets. Engine displacements and cosmetic styling.

not an attack by any means Spidey, but I think your comment sums up everything wrong with Porsche nowadays. You’re right, the casual on looker would never notice any difference, but that’s never been the target market for the 911. 911 owners and lovers are enthusiasts, border line cult members. They notice every detail and appreciate every nuance of styling. To say that the casual onlooker notices no difference means nothing to them, as the casual onlooker would say all 911’s look the same as they entered their Toyota/Honda. In my opinion, these new designs appeal to those that want to achieve a higher status with their ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’ friend group. Why are these new ones so expensive while also introducing even more substandard, plastic materials on the exterior. It’s obvious to anyone following Porsche that these new 911 deigns are borrowed from the panemera (Rear spoiler, interior, overall size) and Cayenne (front grill) and I’m perosnally very saddened by this. These new 911’s are losing their soles, maybe next model won’t even have a gear selector or steering wheel, just an Alexa Command bot and Tesla-like autopilot? I will admit I warmed up to the 991’s, but this is just another step in the wrong direction that I fear has become the new norm. Bigger, Heavier, less original styling, less driver involvement, quiter, more tech-y, and all with sky rocketing prices. (Remember when the 930 911’s were just above blue collar cars?)
I wish Porsche would follow the American muscle car producers and do some more throwbacks to the glory days of design. Modernization, vs their attempted ‘innovation’.
Long live the 997 and the Flat Six.

^^ This.
It's quite interesting that, with the rise in popularity of bespoke builders such as Singer and Gunther that emphasize simplicity, excellence, and purpose with every facet of the car, Porsche doubles down on mass, plastic, and complexity. This is not what the Core market wants.

I'll stay out of responding to this, and would ask others stay away from the political comments. The mods clamp down on that very quickly and could take us off track here.

The thing is Porsche realized they can make a lot more money selling cars to those who want status symbols as opposed to those who want the ultimate sports car... that's why we are seeing the changes we are seeing. The average old man who buys a NEW 911 these days again will hardly explore the performance capabilities of their cars... they are more concerned in having a comfortable and refined coupe that has a prestigious look and heritage behind it.
