I like the thing. Saw it in LA yesterday.
Dislikes:
Shifter - obvious, but given how rabid the base is they were probably afraid to just get rid of it altogether which they should have no doubt
piano black inserts - will certainly be changed in .2, easy aftermarket fix coming also i'm sure
Steering wheel- again, certain will be fixed in .2 release. Just needs the heft of the current one
3rd brake light- Makes sense after I saw the original drawings. The designers envisioned them as incorporated into the middle cooling slats, only lights. Engineers then made them what they actually are.
Likes- Just about everything else.
I sat in 2 of them and think the interior feels high quality (except for above notes)
I still feel like I am in a 911
I love the wide hips in the side mirror view
The sport chrono looks much better
Center tach looks awesome
Screens are super high res
toggle switches feel substantial with a nice solid click
Seats feel great
Like the fabric seat pulls way better than the plastic ones
Trim looks great, almost mid century modern-esque
Exterior-
Side view looks GREAT
Sorry to another poster but the door handles do NOT feel flimsy, quite the opposite as they reach out to meet your hand, feel solid
I have no issue with the front view in person, looks good to me
Frunk is slightly larger than 991.2
Rear looks great to me (except as noted above)
Looks meaner and wider (I know it is)
Looks better all around to me than my 991.2
Sorry- I could care less that the tips aren't connected anymore. Tips are only decoration anyway, who gives a crap. Not like fake exhaust sound.
Slight weight gain sucks but such is progress in the auto industry with all of the safety, efficiency, nannies, etc they feel must be included to stay relevant. Maybe they should be applauded that even with the gain the performance numbers equal or better the last GTS
I will be putting my order in without hesitation

Counting my blessings
I'm just now getting around to reading this thread and have worked my way backward from most recent toward older posts. I've got to chime in with a big thumbs down on the 992. Before reading any of this thread I just finished an at least hour long conversation with my wife pointing out all the things I didn't like about the redesign from big picture how the 991.2 was already too big why continue to make it bigger and heavier...? down to small nits like the door handles or exterior mirrors and everything in between, So many missteps it's unbelievable. I truly hate what they've done to the rear end. And I don't want to have to have the wide body like the C4 and it's light bar... I like the narrow body, thank you. Anyway I just wanted to share with people who care about the marque how I've only had two 911's in my life. The first one was a 1977 911S which I bought in 1979 with 15K miles in mint condition and had it from 1979 - 1982. I had to sell it due to recession and missed it dearly for many years and still do for that matter. My second 911, the one I currently own is a 2018 C2 with a manual transmission that I ordered in January and took delivery May of this year. I had wanted to get another 911 for all those years in between and never managed it. Financially things in the last couple of years changed dramatically and I decided after hearing the 992 will have a digital dash and possibly no manual transmission option I've got to get an order in now or never if I want a new 911 that's still got the classic elements. I wouldn't change a single thing on my 991.2 It's in my opinion perfect and an instant classic with the arrival of the 992!

I don't normally feel compelled to comment on design changes in Porsches, but like others here, I feel compelled to add my $.02. I am truly both shocked and disappointed that Porsche could approve a design that seems so incongruous with itself. The conflict of lines and themes used in both the inside and outside make this car almost painful to look at. And the rear end/rear bumper cover is an abomination with that huge flat surface area. I am sure the car performs like a Porsche, but as Bob Lutz recently said in an interview, there are too many good looking great cars out there to drive one that is ugly.

Actually it's coming full circle. I don't know how it can have eluded everyone. The Carrera was named after a race which was called...
The Carrera Panamericana .
And that's it. That's exactly it, it's what the 992 is. It's like a prophecy is fulfilled.

How are more of you not irate over the overuse of plastic on the front and rear of the car? There's more cheap plastic on the 992 than a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The car looks nice from the profile view, but the front, rear and interior are an embarrassment to the brand. The only winner here is the 996.

I guess 'much ado about nothing' is expected any time a car that hasn't really changed in 50 yrs gets an update. no way does the person who is a casual observer tell the difference between 991.1, 991.2, or 992. im not even sure a car fanatic like me who owned a gt3 for 4 yrs as a daily driver can tell the difference at a glance. if you like 1, you should like the other and vice versa. maybe like one more than other, but not hate one and love the other.
not an attack by any means Spidey, but I think your comment sums up everything wrong with Porsche nowadays. You’re right, the casual on looker would never notice any difference, but that’s never been the target market for the 911. 911 owners and lovers are enthusiasts, border line cult members. They notice every detail and appreciate every nuance of styling. To say that the casual onlooker notices no difference means nothing to them, as the casual onlooker would say all 911’s look the same as they entered their Toyota/Honda. In my opinion, these new designs appeal to those that want to achieve a higher status with their ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’ friend group. Why are these new ones so expensive while also introducing even more substandard, plastic materials on the exterior. It’s obvious to anyone following Porsche that these new 911 deigns are borrowed from the panemera (Rear spoiler, interior, overall size) and Cayenne (front grill) and I’m perosnally very saddened by this. These new 911’s are losing their soles, maybe next model won’t even have a gear selector or steering wheel, just an Alexa Command bot and Tesla-like autopilot? I will admit I warmed up to the 991’s, but this is just another step in the wrong direction that I fear has become the new norm. Bigger, Heavier, less original styling, less driver involvement, quiter, more tech-y, and all with sky rocketing prices. (Remember when the 930 911’s were just above blue collar cars?)
I wish Porsche would follow the American muscle car producers and do some more throwbacks to the glory days of design. Modernization, vs their attempted ‘innovation’.
Long live the 997 and the Flat Six.

^^ This.
It's quite interesting that, with the rise in popularity of bespoke builders such as Singer and Gunther that emphasize simplicity, excellence, and purpose with every facet of the car, Porsche doubles down on mass, plastic, and complexity. This is not what the Core market wants.

If they want to sell them to a bunch of Chinese, fine have it but they wont get my money. There are lots of nice cars out there to choose from.
And if I change my mind on the 992 you'll be able to pick one up used for 70-80 grand in a few years.

Just for fun this weekend I went back to the beginning of the 991 forum to gauge the initial backlash the car had during the spy shot / initial unveiling period. While there is some to be expected, it was mainly targeted for being larger and more GT like than the 997.
Many of us eventually came around and purchased them because despite the larger size and more GT feel they were gorgeous and left very few things to complain about otherwise.
Even so, the initial 991 backlash appears to have been nothing compared to what's happening right now with the 992. Porsche made some huge fumbles right off the bat and they are already paying the price among enthusiasts. These forums and every online article are loaded with WTF posts/ comments about the 992's many missteps. The exterior , interior both have many unforgivable aspects that are going to prove very difficult to warm up to / if at all.
The 992 is quickly shaping up to be the worst follow up act and most lazy, disjointed redesign in 911 history.
" Enthusiasts don't matter, the 992 will sell well regardless " is what they will say.... However, by alienating a large group of 911 followers who own the previous gen cars and can likely afford to purchase another, they are seriously underestimating the fact that these new 992 buyers have almost no loyalty to the brand and will jump ship form Porsche the second that the competitors come out with something else....

I've been a 911 nut my entire life. I'm no longer interested in the new cars other than the high end GT cars.
If they want to sell them to a bunch of Chinese, fine have it but they wont get my money. There are lots of nice cars out there to choose from.
