My Dad was born in Pittsburg to German parents who went back to Berlin when my Dad was age 8 - 13 until the Russians invaded.
He spoke fluent German as well as French and a little Russian. Growing up as a kid in suburbia of the San Francisco East Bay, we would head down to the local Baskin Robbins Ice Cream shop every Sunday for either a double-scoop or a hot fudge sundae in my Dad's blue and white Karmann Ghia. On the way home, we would stop off at McPeak Porsche/Audi in my hometown and walk around the well-lit parking lot checking out all of the 911's and 914's
.
I was 11 or 12 years old at the time and thought that the 914 was so cool!
That's when it all started.

Some of us are in PTS Limbo like in Matrix Reloaded. Have no idea if we are going to get PTS/CXX or not (I hear that if I haven't heard, I won't likely get it by now). Once I know... I can say. But for now.... ?

1. Why would Porsche not have planned it out ahead of time to make sure PTS was available for their halo, "best ever 911" car? I get there's a huge demand for PTS, but this is their most expensive 911 and some of us are in PTS purgatory. Also the existing colors that are non-PTS... not the strongest palette. Because PTS slots are scheduled for all cars, not just for certain trims of certain models. Porsche does not make any more money on a Cayman PTS than it does on a S/T 911. To the Porsche beancounters, it's all the same..

The PTS price for a Panamera is 50% that of an 3RS which means that your last statement may not be accurate.
I cannot figure out if PAG actually wants to do PTS and charge a bunch for it, or if they just raise the prices because it's a giant disruption to their production and they wish no one would choose it. It seems to be the former, or why even offer 120 of these juicy colors as part of PTS.
All of this could be mitigated if the standard colors were more plentiful...OR just charge $10K for every single color.

PTS seems to be a black hole of an enigma. It used to be impossible to get when it was $4K...like winning the lottery. Then as the price went up 5X, the message was it would be "supposedly" easy to get. It's a challenge to parse through all the forum information and make sense of it.

I'm not exactly sure where the production line zig zags through their factory but it seems to me that they could create another spray booth lane or two where PTS cars are routed to. Porsche could figure this out if they wanted to.

Selection of Porsche standard colors kind of sucks. And only a minority of PTS colors are good. I often see colors as good as any PTS colors on regular cars - Hyundai, Honda, etc.

I went through every page of the Touring picture threads in the 991.2 and 992 subs.
Two conclusions:
1) black with sliver accents looks best
2) the harder people try to stand out with PTS and CXX, the worse the outcome
This is my choice

So let me get this straight, 7 years after the 911R was released, producing double the number of cars, increasing PTS price by 4X, most people still can't get PTS on their 911ST?!
I remember when the 911R was announced, Porsche initially announced that they couldn't do any PTS on any cars (including VIP customers) due to short production time. A month later, Porsche came out with 3 additional colors (black, yellow and orange) and told clients who received allocations of these "special" colors that it was very limited (when in fact there was nothing special about these colors at all, lol). People who received these "special colors" allocations were elated and people who had to settle for regular white or silver got really pissed. While all of this was happening, Porsche was secretly working on increasing paint capacity for true PTS allocations for the world. US market received 27 out of the 90 spots.
2 years later when the 991 Speedster came out, Porsche was ready for PTS demand and doubled the number of cars (to satisfy those who couldn't get the R). But this time, it was CXX request that overwhelmed Porsche, lol. Anybody who wanted PTS got one. Anyone who wanted a CXX interior other than black leather, got rejected. Same thing happened again. Initially, Porsche told customers that no CXX interior other than black was allowed. Then a month later, they allowed CXX leather color from the standard 991 palette to be granted to special customers. People who got garnet red, cognac, graphite blue, etc, were really happy. Of course, in Porsche's fashion, they secretly allowed a few VIP customers cars to get true leather to sample in any leather color they wished. Out of the 600+ Speedsters in the US, a few dozen cars got a nice car with true custom CXX interior.
So here we are, in 2023, with 1963 911ST produced worldwide. About 700 cars will be coming to the US, I wonder how many of these cars will not receive PTS? I know there are less than 200 918 VIPs on the list now, so assuming every 918 VIP opted for the 911ST allocation and assume the take rate of PTS is around 80% (some people just don't care about colors), that's about 160 PTS cars allocated already. I wonder what is going to be the true percentage of PTS over regular colors on the 911ST? 30%?
