That's a damning photo. Funny that no one else talking about the z06 as being a track super star reacted to it. That photo alone has me dubious as to the Z06s endurance. I'm sure it will good on the drag strip - which is where the conversation seems to have headed now.

After watching some of the launch videos, I am hoping that the 240 is their target max oil temp. Maybe it is designed to be below that in all conditions and they had that reminder there to protect a pre production experimental engine before they fully validated cooling.

We shall see, but they seem more confident this time about thermal management:

It’s hard to get this engine hot, hot.” Gartner said, noting that the two radiators on the side pods are dedicated to the engine and the transmission oils.

“The bulk of the hot coolant comes out of the engine, goes forward, gets cooled by three radiators, and comes back to the water pump. Most of that then goes to cool the engine. The water pump pulls off fresh coolant to the two side radiators, which then step it down even colder.” The driver-side heat exchanger is dedicated to the oil cooler, which circulates the coolant to the biggest engine oil cooler Chevrolet has ever installed. It keeps the 5W-50 oil—specifically selected because it provides ample lubrication and allowed engineers to optimize bearing widths—very cool. The passenger-side heat exchanger does the same but cools the transmission. “This is rock solid from a thermal perspective,” Gartner promised.

Yeah, the quote above wouldn’t make sense if they were having overheating issues. Maybe that note was a reminder of the failure with the C7 and so to be hyper conscious of oil temp during testing? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, you can bet they have to get it right this time around or it will be a big black eye. Hopefully they do. I’m on the list for one and am willing to risk it.

This is a collection of quotes from the people who worked on the z06. Their career-topping excitement for being able to develop something so uniquely awesome is really palpable in their statements.

Unlikely. Too heavy.

i also own multiple P-cars and am seriously interested in the new Z06 for a track weapon. GT car prices are not justifiable to me especially with the ADM add on.

Yup and that’s why I daily drive my antique Carrera 3.2. It is an experience no modern car gives me including either of my 2 981 Porsches. However when I’m on track my competitive juices kick in and my poor little 981 Cayman S just doesn’t stand a chance against equal drivers in GT cars. I wouldn’t mind having a Z06 for track days and save $100k in the process over the cost of a GT3 RS.

I was just quoted a $100K ADM on incoming GT3 by SoCal stealership...

The ADM on the Z06 will be no less and most deliveries are stretched out to 2025.

Pick your poison.

I just wired the deposit for my Z06 the other day. Its at MSRP and I have the very first allocation. I guess I am lucky.

although some ADMs for the Z06 may be $100K asking, no one will pay that. Most will probably be $35-$50K-ish in my opinion. The ZR-1 and E-Ray are still to be released and $100K ADMs will price the Z06 out of their buyer's market.

Wait till journalists drive the Z06 and compare it to GT3. If it breaks the lap records in all circuits in US, I would not be surprised. We dont have a mid engine N/A car at this performance bracket. The best choice is a GT3 but I think it has the rear engine problem (even with double wishbone suspension and won't be able to match Z06 mid engine handling.

Default 3RS vs Z06

The comparison of the new Z06 with the new GT3 RS seems comical to me. The 991 GT3 RS did 6:56 on the N Ring and the new Z06 will have a hard time matching that, let alone matching the blistering time the new GT3RS will set.

Initially, yes. However there are some factors that will bring those wait times down I believe.

1.) The upcoming E-Ray and ZR-1 will play a role in lowering the actual numbers of those wanting a Z06.

2.) Supply chain and production. If the supply chain sorts itself out in the next year or two, GM will be back to churning those things out by the dozen. GM is operating in a not normal fashion right now, they are a volume MFG., even the Corvette.

Lets see if you’ll be as amused when the lap times start pouring in
