A place to discuss all things ADM

‘We all will be dead when that occurs, no city can support 100% of electrification, and cars need to be fully charged in 5 min max to support the demand. The world has no capacity to recycle all the used dead batteries. Driving across country through rural America will be the highway to hell ……hybrid mixed with ICE will be important for a long time. Not saying it will not happen, but if you’re 30 and over don’t worry about it. Most cities in America can’t handle extreme heat, and cold on their grids. Just my 2 cents, I retired from an industry where fuel was and is the number expense no easy solutions like our government thinks.

Even California's CARB law allows for the driving of used gas-powered vehicles after 2035.

Bingo, for this it occur the good ole government has to buyout all the mom and pop gas stations, and make their investments whole. All the land that occupied gas stations have to be remediated to remove the fuel from the soil to be repurposed, and ICE cars what happens to the people that can’t afford an electric car? (Govt will have to provide vouchers to purchase electric cars if this is mandated) Good luck with that, and you get there through attrition as stated we will be dead. CA is not stupid with a population of 37M, and no way they attempt to remove 100% ICE’s because the infrastructure is years behind. My wife and I had an apartment in Amsterdam, and I’d would argue European cities are much closer as they started this process years ago, and their train system is years ahead of anything we have in the states. So I say cars with ICE’s will be around for awhile, and TX will become it’s on country if you try to take their oil away. 😎

Never conflate the two.
The former needs legislative authority (legislature, signature by Governor) to take effect.
The latter (like the EV mandate) is simply a directive by a regulatory body (in this case, CARB).
So what, you ask?
Well, the former is much harder to change, cuz, you know we're a democratic system of government.
The latter? It can be changed simply by gubernatorial fiat; in other words, the next governor after Newsom could simply wipe away the EV mandate just as easily as Newsom (via CARB) had it put into place.
TL;DR deep breath, relax, the end of ICE in any form is neither a given, nor determined.

I initially used the word "initiative" and then erroneously replaced it with the word "law".
My apologies.

When everything is collectible it makes me think nothing will be....and there's always that saying from Pawn stars I watched forever ago, "If it's a collectible when new....It's not collectible" I think that is very true for the most part.

Talked with my GM today. He said that, based on email he got from Porsche last week, there will be no more GT car allocations for MY 2023 and 2024. He was told to cancel all order demands. So if you don't already have an allocation, you're not going to get one unless there's one for sale somewhere with an ADM. I'm at the top of his list to get allocations (at MSRP) for the 992.2 cars, but that's likely 2+ years off.
I think this will tend to keep the prices of the used GT cars up for a while, even if we have a recession next year. Prices may continue to gradually drift down, but I don't expect a crash in GT car prices next year, so getting a used 992 GT car at around MSRP may be about the best deal you're going to get.
I'm considering picking up a 991.2 Turbo or Turbo S, or waiting to get an allocation for a 992 turbo that I can spec for a track build.

From 2 weeks ago . . .
I just got back from Stuttgart, one of our clients took Euro Delivery of his Dolomite GT3 and while we where doing the factory tour- watching them build cars...it was a total treat. I've been there 5 times now and it never gets old seeing those guys and gals put together our little dream cars.
To address total production and overlap etc...dealers were given the 'entire calendar year of GT allocations' already. so, anything beyond this current allocation batch is definitely a 2024 but also probably built in 2024. I have a psychopath (said lovingly) client who is waiting til 2024 because 'he really wants his car to be PTS'. Our store got a lot less than I'd hoped for, and in terms of GT3 production from our allocation of 2023's they made ~80-90% of them as 2022's or this year in 2022 vs what we are getting in 2023...that slack is not entirely getting taken up by the 3RS- but by the Dakar (2500 units WW), the GTS, the Turbo/S, and GT4RS (made on same line as 911).
If you have a car coming be grateful and if you don't- just do more trackdays with whatever you have in your garage right now.

One thing I forgot to mention from the conversation with my GM. He doesn't think these cars are worth the highly inflated prices, and isn't interested in buying them at inflated prices due to the risk of being underwater if prices decline, as has been happening and he expects will continue to happen.
