My 73 911 is a bloated pig compared to my buddy’s Caterham

Didn’t AP say in the video that with each generation, they are aiming for the gt3 to hit the performance of the previous RS? I own a 997.2 RS and would be looking to add a 991.2 RS in a few years. I do not like the philosophy of weight savings by porsche. Maybe it’s time for a carbon tub? With the asking price of these machines. It’s not like they are reinventing the wheel with each new model. They gotta be making a killing. Based on the #’s of models sold from 997-991 it’s like triple the amount of GT cars. The unpainted parts also bother me. Most people use paint protection so it’s not like they are doing us a favor

interesting banter & speculation .... (subscribed to hear more)
but for me, as a guy who spends most of his time on twisty B roads, and gets more enjoyment touring long weekends in my 997.2 GT3, I will always wait 10+ years between any new USED purchase.
I take my sweet time moving to any newer generation. Started in the 80's with long hoods & a 914, moved into G bodies, always selling then buying,...
.... and when I finally hit the 964 Turbo I KEPT it,.. only to add a 997.2 GT3. Sooo much fun reving up the Mezger, that I am positive it will continue satisfying me well into the 992.2 years.
Appreciating the latest/greatest, comes from relationships with the past. I can wait.

They won’t offer a carbon tub any time soon because:
1 - The GT3 (RS) sells itself - there is no other car available that is premium, NA, and manual optional. Soon there won’t be a premium NA offering (once the R8 and Huracan move to forced induction).
2 - CF tub would entail either making two different versions of the 911 (which cuts into profits - Porsche amortizes costs across a vast parts bin and array of model variants) or making the base ~$100k Carrera a vehicle with a CF tub.
3 - The main 911 line is a poor candidate for CF tub because of expense to manufacture, insurance/repair cost, ingress/egress (especially for a car with back seats), and noise/vibration/harshness (the Carrera customer doesn’t want to feel every vibration and pebble while he’s heading in to perform a root canal).
Ferrari has no trouble moving their volume models - which feature aluminum monocoque construction and frequently command higher prices (new and certainly used) versus peer models from McLaren.

They ARE making a killing on the GTx cars, as well as the other 911s and ... everything else they make.

oh goodness gracious. Can't we just appreciate a new variant that comes out, regardless of what we're driving now? I mean, we're all Porsche drivers. And yes, my reading comprehension is fine. Let's not go trashing the posters here, for God's sake, especially in a damn pandemic. People all over are coughing, wheezing, and running fevers. Just a little perspective. These are cars.
I wonder if the level of vitriol is the same on the Cayenne or Panny boards?
Someone will have to let me know if they get a GT3 allocation. I will be waiting for the car & happy for those lucky ADM individuals.

For some reason the GT3 always seemed like a compromise to me and I dont know why people would but a GT3 Touring when they can buy the RS
I am never swapping out my RS for a GT3, no thank you!

MT is a solid reason for people choosing a non RS, plus a vehicle with better road manners and less ‘look at me’ looks, not to mention the considerable price difference. The RS only really shows it’s advantage on track. Love the RS but the std 3 suits some people’s needs/desires better.
