Yeah, an RS would be a huge "compromise" for the many of us who want a manual transmission and don't want a huge wing on the back of our car. Different strokes for different folks.

There's this reason.

It'd be great if they offered it as an option in the RS.

Such lovely cars!

For me the GT3 is mostly a track car, so fantastic that prior gen RS benefits are making it's way down the line in addition to new advancements. I don't find the GT3 in traditional form with PDK particularly fun to drive on the roads. It's too fast and not as engaging (w/PDK). To really enjoy what the car can do it needs to be on track and you don't need to be a track master to enjoy that.

So my strategy I think will be this - GT3 Touring for street (with manual) and retain my 991.2 GT3 for track or trade on 992.1 3RS for track.

Strategy may also be to step down to GT4 w/PDK for track as I'm not fully exploiting GT3 capabilities. Free up some coin to help fund a 993 purchase.

i made that trade in the 991 gen. Don’t do it. First time you find your yourself getting passed on the straights by all the GT3s you passed getting there, you’ll sell the gt4 and get another gt3

im thinking get the new gt3 with wing and PDK. Maybe touring with PDK so I have the option of doing track and some fun weekend drives. But you lose a lot of downforce in the touring..

100%. Downgraded to a GT4 once, but never again.

I'm pretty sure this car will be lapping the NBR at a time similar to the current 991.2 RS... I have a 997.2 GT3 currently that is predominantly tracked and I'm looking for an addition to try out the modern digital machines.

As for selling a 991.2 to update to a 992 I see no value in this. The 991.2 GT3 is so well sorted that all these improvements would hardly be noticeable on the street and you would have to be very competent on track to appreciate the differences. Many people have made the comment about concerns with their 991.2 looking dated compared to the 992, I don't see that at all...
OH, you drove the new 992.1 GT3 with its improved suspension around on the street already? The wider body, larger staggered wheels and completely new front suspension made no perceptible difference on the street and barely on a track?

You're probably right. GT4 would be easier to manage in the corners, if one could carry good speed through you may keep ahead of less experienced GT3 drivers. But ultimately it's the slower car.

I wouldn't advise on PDK for street in a GT3. But depends where you live too.

So I love the PDK, I just bought a M2CS for when I feel the need to shift. otherwise I go with PDK for street and track..its just soooo good.

M2CS sounds like a great car.

I have a few manuals but it doesn't make the GT3 PDK more enjoyable on street. Love PDK and get kicks out of the tranny for the first little bit on the street then it's not so exciting. Just get up to speed too quickly without much involvement. Roads around here are likely a factor too.

Nope! The point I was simply making is that unless you track your car and are competent around a racetrack there is no point to the update as the 991.2 GT cars are so well sorted.

Doubt new front suspension, staggered wheel sizes and wider body are going to come into play at 65mph on a highway or at cars and coffee. Any suggestion that there will be marked improvement at highway speeds is fanciful at best, don't need to have driven the car to know this

If you're in Europe on the autobahns or on a race track and competent then that's a very different story... I was lapping 991 GT2RSs on the track last week, doubt those guys would notice the improvements mentioned above

Touring is the soft option for those that don’t like money or comfortable suspension.
GT3 is for the track and not much more uncomfortable then the touring while getting there.
RS hardcore, fastest thing on the track and still allows you to drive to the track and shops.
Weissach, Street legal Clubsport just legal enough but unbearable to drive to the track.

All in small, (Play hard to get, one per season) numbers, extremely hard to get PTS colors for a total GT car production of a gazillion cars...

Is it me or dit the Cayman het fat and the GT3 got lighter?

As soon as we receive our freedom shots and passes, I’ll get the first thing they will hand me on the next Euro Delivery.
+1. "Trackcar does European Delivery" is one of the all time best threads on Rennlist! Just went back and reread the entire thread - a great experience and read! The epitome of what these cars are all about - the experience of what the cars can bring and enjoyment of sharing it with friends. The newer generation will always perform better than the last generation. The older generations, in my opinion, will not look dated. Even today, the 944 Turbo still has great styling to my eyes! I cannot say that about some of the other sports car makers.

.... just noticed that the last couple posters have 997.2 GT3's (like myself). I will NEVER give that car up for anything newer. Of course it would be fun to add a 991.2 to the stable at some point in the future. But my two "old" 911's still gitRdone
