I could not, "not go". So, I went early AM today. For a couple of hours, the taxes, cost of living, etc. in Sunny So. Cal, were all forgotten. BTW, for those of you not familiar, it's Azusa Canyon Road (aka San Gabriel Canyon Road).
Since there are so many local drivers in SoCal we should organize a Covid19 drive up the canyons haha.
I am in San Diego but if someone twisted my arm just a bit I would head up to LA to hit some canyons. I've run everything down here and would love a guided tour up north!
Or we could run up and down Mount Palomar and Julian. Great roads down south as well.
Ran those last weekend and the roads were a bit dirty from the rain and snow so speeds were lower. Hitting Sunrise Highway tomorrow so hopefully it is better although less twisties. Will take too much time to run further out and then up banner grade so I will skip that unfortunately but I will probably hit a piece of it north of Julian to Wynola.
If you want to run Palomar sometime though I am definitely in! I posted a longer route in this thread somewhere that includes Palomar Mtn.
Crackdown here is real...and "fun vehicles" are targeted. It stinks, given this week's glorious weather, but the "mood" changed midweek. I can see it from the other side, though: The last thing our first responders, LE, fire departments, ERs, etc. need are unnecessary breakdowns, accidents, traffic stops/interactions, distractions, etc. And it's hard to separate reasonable drivers in cool cars from risky ones. My guess is LE and other emergency services probably deal with at least one crash on the fun roads out here every weekend, and some of them are gruesome and/or involving. They don't need those incidents right now.
Heard a sport bike in the distance on 101 yesterday going all the miles per hour, and have to admit I smiled as I stood in the garage, listening to its rider go through the gears with conviction. Each gear was a long pull over what sounded like a mile or so up and over a hill—as if to say "YOLO!" He/she isn't alone, but they're shutting that down around here, too.
Last summer my wife and I cycled from Toronto to Niagara Falls and back. Literally thousands of people enjoying the falls. Today we drove our T down to Niagara Falls. Zero traffic and zero people. Stay safe!
