So, purchased my “new to me” 2012 Carrera S with 16,000 miles last week. Still trying to decide what, if anything to do to the car…
Ordered replacement for sticky ***** and black Lloyd’s mats with red deviated stitching today from Suncoast. Thinking about upgrading the steering wheel to the 991.2 design…
what a Beauty and Another Manual on the board!! Yes!
I'm not sure if I would have done this if I'd known all of the work involved. I have them temporarily covered/secured for now as I plan to cover them with PFF to protect them from wear.
Prep Remove inner sill and weather lining Getting ready to clean... Final
Feel your pain. It absolutely sucks to remove the old ones! I'm not sure I'd tackle it again either. Scratched up my door sills a bit too scraping that glue off. The carbon does look good though and I also had mine PPF'd.
991.2 Steering wheel is sweet! Finished mine a few days ago.
This is on my list of future mods. Did you have MF/heated wheel? Assuming you used GPSAdapter, curious how difficult the swap was once you got the parts

I went from a MF non heat to MF w heat. I used the GPS adapter. Need to get the correct clock spring to enable heat which will require some programing I understand. If you are simply going from MF .1 to MF .2 it is really straight forward. Super easy mod. GPSadapter site is helpful too.

Who did the install? Any good place to get the parts? I've wanted to do this but the parts are pretty expensive I can't justify it in my head. Would be sweet to have that change mode wheel on the steering wheel itself.

….
What’s so difficult about it? Is it just the amount/strength of the aggressive that the factory uses?
I’d like to install some illuminated ones but maybe I can be talked out of it

I did the install my self. Pretty easy. I ordered the wheel and air bag from Suncoast. Adapter from GPSAdapters.
Yes, wheel and airbag are expensive as well as the adapters. You will need 2 adapters to have the mode **** work. Unfortunately the adapter to make the mode **** work is out of stock.

Not here to talk you out of them but I have them and the passenger side is not working???
I have a 2013 C2S and don’t know when they were installed but with 34k miles you’d think they’d both still be working? I’ve yet to look into the cause but hoping it’s a bad connection?
Purchased the A pillar trim wind deflectors a few months ago from rennline. Have gotten a lot of stuff from them over the years. These came with double faced tape where as the ones on my 981 spyder installed with screws from the inside of the A pillar. Those were more of a pain to install but are still on the car. Noticed today after a ride all I had left was the "glue" on both A pillars. Thank God there were no scratches on the doors from them flying off, God knows where... VERY disappointed especiallly since they were over $100 shipped!!! Wonder what response I'll get from them. I don't want them to send another pair as who knows how long they'll stick???
Used a $3.00 tread depth gauge to evaluate tire wear. Found rear tires wearing on inner edge, front tires all but perfect. Found rear camber at -2.5 degrees using a $30 Klein inclinometer on the brake rotors. Reset to -1.3 degrees to get some miles out to the tires. Checked toe with $12 worth of PVC pipe, some string and 4 jack stands. All in spec except right rear, had -1MM toe. I know -1mm toe is off since I printed the specs off and converted degrees to mm using a free chart that shows the values for 20 inch wheels. Porsche wanted $350 for alignment, a very reputable shop wanted $200 but in reality, now that I done it any $99 alignment shop could handle. Extremely easy to do with accessible adjustment locations. Sure it took me about 8 hours over a couple days (lol) but pretty sure I know more about alignments than 99.5% of the population and I entertained myself for 8 hours.. My 4runner, Tundra have -01 degrees of camber. Car drives perfectly straight, no torque steer etc. On the other had it did before the alignment also. I was shocked at the repeatability of my string set up, many times I put the "string set up" up and down and on wheels with no adjustments the dimensions never changed and I was using 1/2mm scale and dial indicators. Pretty cool.
If you ever venture off into this task the key with the front wheels is to turn the steering wheel until two measurements between the front wheels is the same. In other words the dimension between the string and front of rim or the dimension between string and back of the rim are the same. If not you have little chance of getting total toe correct. Rear is painfully easy since wheels don't turn. I would venture to say if you need to adjust toe on front wheels have a shop do the alignment. If you are just adjusting camber you can easily do yourself. Everyone says adjusting camber will affect toe, it didn't on my car. Had zero effect from -2.5 to -1.3 degrees....

Just a word of advice...
I have those on mine. I've made a lot of highway runs with them and no issues at all.
Did you make sure to clean the area first really well with rubbing alcohol to get rid of any wax or dust? I also hit the 3m with a hair dryer first to soften it before going out and sticking them on to the car. I've had similar issues to yours before with other parts when I didn't prep it.
I cleaned with alcohol before I installed them- but will say rennline refunded my purchase without question so I give them that. I will try and remember who sells the kind that attach with screws.
