Maybe I need someone in the SoCal area to give me the opportunity to compare the shifts back to back with my car.
What part of SoCal?

I used Rector for mine at they gouged at 3 hours but I had other dealer work being done so I grinned and beared it! At least you know you wont get scratched trim pieces...

They also refused to unselect my power steering plus so I don't anticipate using them anymore. Looking for a good independent

It's actually not that hard to do. The DIY here

Is super good.

Just get a good set of trim removal tools.

But try the Stable in Lower Pac Heights. Those guys seem super legit.

I highly advise doing this mod at the same time if possible. It makes everything feel just right IMO.

Exactly. It should take about an hour for those not mechanically inclined. I used a plastic bicycle tire removal 'crowbar' to unclick the trim pieces. Worked like a charm. No idea why the pro shops like BBi and dealers charge a minimum of 2 hours.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this SSK. Since day one, I've felt that the throw was a bit on the long'ish side.

Just read all 8 pages of this thread and didn't see anyone mention if this SSK eliminated any of the play/slop in the shifter. My Cayman has some side to side play. I'm hoping this SSK with it's upgraded bushings might alleviate some of it.

Can anyone chime-in regarding this?

I had a 981 Cayman S and installed this SSK in my 991 C2S. I personally didn't feel the shifter was super sloppy, especially the my former 981 Cayman, but the SSK doesn't improve "tightness", just shortens the throws.

I was hoping so since the SSK states upgraded bushings. Well, at least I'll have the shorter throws.

This is how much play/slop I have on my shifter:
I guess I can follow this DIY but seems a bit MacGyver.

If somebody could do a YouTube installation video on the SSK they would be my hero.

No slop in my shifter.
In my experience the SSK shifter is much tighter. I'd attribute it to the tight spring action now back to center.

My Porsche tech says this is possible to switch without removing the PCM. It would have saved another 10 minutes... Smh
