Took it out for another drive.. All seems fine with the air bag issue. I'll update you guys if something comes up.
The shifts need a little getting use too but definitely more direct and like others said require Some effort. All in all I'm enjoying it.. And would recommend.
Sucks to hear you had a bad experience. No problems with my install. I love it more and more each day. Maybe it was just a fluke for you. Fingers crossed...
We installed it last night, and like all of the other reviews, it changes the feel of the car. Feels more sporty, and is a definite must have. We did the install in 30 minutes.

It took me 30 minutes to figure out how to disconnect all the plugs to the PCM, and another 30 min. with the shifter ****/boot. Time well spent though, as the SSK is a very worthwhile addition.
Another happy driver here. I struggled a bit with unhooking some of the PCM connectors and wish I had read someone's comment about twisting the zip tie anchors first, instead of cutting them. Other than that, the early DIY writeup was perfect. The incremental throw weight is immaterial, and the feel improvement is solid. First DIY I've done on the 911 and it felt great to get things done myself and for only $250 in parts!
Drove it a couple of miles home and everything seemed to be fine. Took it out later to really give it a try and feel it out.. 20 minute into the drive the airbag light came on. Turn the car off.. Back on and it's gone.. Went back home Ÿ‘ŽŸ
Anyone have this issue??
My Previous 981 had this issue when the passenger seat was too far back and it hit the firewall. For some reason this caused an airbag fault. Not sure if this could be similar in the 991. There obviously isn't a firewall to hit, but maybe something related.
JAM2, anyway i can enlist you to help me with this install? 30mins! that's pretty darn good. pm sent.
or anyone in the NYC area... can you help out a brudda with the ssk install?
thanks.
The key factor of doing this in 30 minutes is having the right counterpart in the "We" component. The PCM is a bit of a pain to go back in if the wires aren't reconnected properly. We needed to move the antenna wire from under the others to over the others (or vice verse) in order for it to slide back in.
Also, we left the boot and gear shift **** attached to the center console.
Just set up to have mine done in 10 days and the Indy shop quoted less than 2 hours. They were more concerned with removing the trim than doing the shifter install from a time standpoint.

Trim removal is the easy part
I can rip the trim out of the center console in less than 10 minutes. The hardest part for me was the zip ties hold downs for the wiring in the center console. I ended up cutting them and putting new ones after the install.
Nice to see so many RLers doing this mod. I considered it, but now I'm not so sure. I don't have any issues with the current shifter and I feel like it's a perfect DD setup. The notchiness is there but it isn't something I see as a negative, especially for daily commutes.
Maybe I need someone in the SoCal area to give me the opportunity to compare the shifts back to back with my car.
