Great, now that I'm looking in the market the prices seem at least $10-15K higher than a couple months ago. Spring fever or are there other market forces at work? At this point I'm going to just try and be patient and wait for my deal to come along, which hopefully won't be too long.
WAIT. Don't overpay. The stock market is not going to continue to climb, housing prices can't go up much more without wages increasing, and easy money is being phased out. By fall, prices will be at a more normal place. It isn't like there aren't any 991's around; on the CPO locator alone, there were 86 991 manuals in stock at Porsche dealers in the country.
I talked with them today and based on the interest they have received he was pretty locked into the 73/74 range.
I am in the 70/71 in which he thought only if the car sat for a month that I may have a chance.

There's a lot of viewpoints on this.
One side of the spectrum is people calling out "passion". "Passion" is what gets us a 400k R...
The other side is people calling out "reason". "Reason" gets us a 62k 2012.5 911 C2S.
The choice comes down to situation in many cases... Many in the country have a smaller window on what time they can enjoy a car like this, Spring having just sprung leads to all these increased prices- but once they clear out, we'll have a bottom out right after.
If you can wait 3-4 months and intend to own for longer than a year, wait.
If your hands are tied with mother nature or intend to flip a year later at a loss, pull the trigger.
Everyone has different reasonings and as a community we should be at least aware that the guy paying for the 400k R has a reason. I'm looking forward to STG's dump on why and where the market it- analytics on a dynamic market is a little fun hobby for me and there's a lot of data to ingest before seeing the patterns...
IMO, it is crazy to try and save a few thousand and wait 3+ months if you have found a car that checks all your boxes.
In my experience, you should do the following.
1. Know what model(s) you want
2. Know what options are a must and know what you would like as an option
3. Know what price you want to pay.
4. If a car is within a few thousand of that price and meets #1 and 2, then you run, do not walk to get it.
All of this is just my opinion, but get out and enjoy a car now while you can. Like was stated earlier, a few thousand is no big deal in the grand scheme of things and you have no idea if you are even blessed with another spring/summer.

Not all of us on here are retired...
Everyone has a perspective- we're all crazy about the cars though.
Also did my first "Renncheck" for a HFS follower on a car that was local to me at a Porsche dealer. Interesting things learned. Can't take anything for granted these days. Will report later.
I can't believe you can complain with the countless choices you have looking for a PDK. You have countless cars to choose from compared to those of us that really engage in driving with three pedals.
