I thought it gave you an extra power outlet too.

It did, which is why I think many opted for it. I had it on my first 991S; my current one doesn't have it. It's a nice feature to have for plugging in cell phones, etc.

An easy swap if you ever want to change it. They even sell the power harness now on Suncoast to have the outlet work.

I haven't experienced any Porsches that have been smoked in. But it's fairly common in ordinary cars.

I've been wanting to do this! Are there any DIY instructions out there or is it more of a dealer installation thing?

They have good instructions on removing trim pieces.

The actual tray is an easier DIY, but if needing the wiring harness, might need some dealer help. I didn't need the extra power so skipped it. Plus, I had my laser jammer control mounted in it anyway by Musicar.

The passenger footwell has an outlet too. Best for battery tender.

The glove box a USB too which also charges.

I read that the footwell one switches off after a certain time (that was in the Cayenne forum, I think). That's why I have been using the cigarette outlet instead. Maybe someone can clarify?

Footwell one works all the time on the 991.1

Easy, keeps the cord low, and run out bottom of door.

The issue you mentioned was another model like you said.
