Where are the deals - THAT is the question!

I'm very actively looking in the tri-state region and have 6 or 7 dealers within an hour of me. Some data points:

Inventory levels are really low for anything except base models with few options

Pricing is robust!! Dealers have pretty ambitious prices, partly as a result of short supply.

I talked to a dealer this week who had hardly any inventory and he told me they just can't find it. He said even lease returns were thin pickings and he mentioned that a lot of cars they are seeing are in poor condition and they are passing on them (why poor condition - no idea). He said wait until the 991.2s were more plentiful and people started trading into them.

Leftovers - some interesting discussions on these. '16s seem to be easily available with 12% off without trying. '15s seem to be 16% off openly advertised and someone here got 22% off a '15 GTS. '17s are already at 5% off.

^^^ Spider, ALL a very accurate assessment. Also, expand your search to the whole US if you haven't.

One point on this quote:

"He said wait until the 991.2s were more plentiful and people started trading into them"

Aside from leases which many will switch to, as far as purchases many dealers I've talked to are seeing little of that from 991.1 buyers. Most of the interest in .2's is from guys who have never owned a 911. With that being said, interest is off to a slow start thus far for the .2's. What the rest of the year looks like?? Not sure. Spring is off to a late start too (which will only get more tight for .1's) I think the .2's should do ok. Time will tell ...

MANY 991.1 owners are staying put. ALOT of guys interested in and shopping for used 991.1's now. I assume in 1+ yrs the 991.2's will be pretty plentiful in the used market which will take some pressure off the 991.1's as far as from a competitive pricing standpoint.

Right now, any sort of reasonable deals are in the 991.1's. The reason why this thread got started and is so popular.

Like I've always said. Why pay new at $120K +++ when you can find a CPO car with less than 10K miles at $30K+++ off MSRP?? In this scenario and parameters guys have saved $30-60K off MSRP's. How can you go wrong??

I do like fine things, but at a discount!

Your last paragraph seems to be in conflict with "no good availability" of pre-owned.

He is referring to new .1 cars still sitting at dealers which deals can be had.

I understand but his quoted discounts on "new" cars seem great and should set the tone for pre-owned. Not sure why the discounts on new cars '15-'17 do not create more activity on pre-owned especially on GTS cars.

A bit of inconsistency.

Sales of new 991 are down. Whether .1 or now .2. There is a lot of NOS in inventories across the country. Slower new car sales (leases) do impact the number of trade ins.

Just sharing my real world experience as of the past few days. Does it all make sense - not necessarily! These are my data points, take from it what you will.

Are some of the NEW deals better than some of the used deals - in some cases it is at least damn close.

I wasn't looking at new, but as I started to ask questions I realized that the pricing is extremely close in some instances. You need to look at all the options.....

Does it make more sense to purchase a new MY 15 at 20%+ discount vs a pre-owned (even if it is low mileage) at a 30-35% discount? YES! You will recoup part of the difference at sale time for being a "one owner" car and you get to use it first, when it is 100% new and perfect. True, you have to break it in, take to the shop for them to fix the "minor things" that you find after weeks or months of driving it, etc. BUT INMO YES.

BUT: such a discount on the new model can only be had in certain dealerships, and the offer of such cars is limited, so if you want an "C2S" with some "must have" options and the right color combo you are just not going to find it easily at that price...

...so I ended up purchasing pre-owned.

My 1.5 cents

Default '14 4S WP0AB2A93ES122192 8700 miles CPO to 2/20

Test drove this car today. All seems to be in order with a few exceptions:
Rear tires replaced-not fronts. Is this typical for this kind of mileage on AWD?
Paint had some issues with a few chips and two minor scratches but nothing major.
Rims had some minor scratches but not unusual for a two yer old car.
Car probably needed a full detail or paint correction.
as king price $94 but some flexibility. I am trading a '14 981 but looking for AWD for a year round driver? Opinions on price would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Looks pretty filthy. Has a $92K MSRP. Not a great deal IMO.

Picked up my first Porsche this week. Was looking at it online and called, someone had a deposit on it. Luckily for me they backed out and was scheduled to take it for a drive when I saw someone had it listed on this thread. Was at Porsche of Tysons Corner. Had everything I was looking for. $70k, 21,000 miles. CPO. Have been enjoying it!
