We drive a 911 because we simply can’t afford a Ferrari
#76
There is always someone that has more money, more attitude, more cars. Who cares? I'm on my 13th or 14th Porsche, I guess if I had a little more control I could have had and Fcar but I never really wanted one. Does not mean I don't love and appreciate what they are and how beautiful they can be. But in the end you buy what you like, have a passion for and yes, what you can afford. Porsche allows me to have a car I can drive daily, not be overly anxiety ridden when I park it, and know if I come up on an Fcar at a red light, sometimes, his best view of my Porsche will be the rear spoiler.

When I was younger, I was certain if I could afford it, I would want a Ferrari. Now that I'm a bit older and probably could afford a Ferrari (although I'd rather put the money into my house), I don't really have any desire to own one. I love that I can drive my Porsche around as often as I want, where I want, without attracting too much attention. Folks now and then look at it, I get waves from other Porsche owners, but I don't feel like I'm shouting "hey look at me". I love classic Ferraris and appreciate their heritage, but I wouldn't drive a modern Ferrari unless I had a huge stable of cars and they weren't stored at my house (i.e. my neighbors weren't acutely aware I had a Ferrari).

I missed that point too. My theory is that you desperately want attention, and creating an user on a Porsche forum to say something prove my point. Or maybe I am wrong and you can explain it better.

Very different cars, very different personalities with some overlap in the venn diagram. Very different image IMO.
Both are iconic brands in motorsport and sports cars. Not sure why this thread exists LOL

I finally watched the whole video, and the main point was if you want a Ferrari and have the money, you'll get one (reliability won't stand in your way). But, later in the video (5:00 mark), he stated if you can afford a Ferrari you will buy one, but I think that was meant to include the "if you want one" qualifier.

1- Create an account in here and other Porsche forums.
2- Start a thread "Tell me the reasons you didn't get a Ferrari" or "Would you get a Ferrari if you had the money?"
3- Sit and read replies, highlighted what's useful.
4- Make his YouTube video based on facts.
Common sense does not come up easy to some people mate, he is a walking example.

He got what he wanted - "hot takes" drive viewership - hell, he got this thread to be created and filled with talking points.
Like any other troll, don't feed them. I will say though, he is a balding, fat guy - he has nailed the Ferrari owner look.

Tried to sympathize. And I still agree that people who want a Ferrari + have the money = have one. There are Porsche owners with the money that don't want one and that's okay. Most of us also have a watch or handful of watches that are worth thousands of dollars. Everything negative being said about the Ferrari can be said about that watch vs a Casio.
What I can afford is a Rolex. And a Panerai. And a JLC. Oh, but also a Tag Heuer, a Hamilton... and yes, a Casio. And I wear all of them. Ironically enough, I wear the JLC the least- too dressy for casual wear.
I wear the Casio the most. Imagine that.
One thing I'll agree with him on is the unnervingly frequent personal attacks on his appearance in this thread are... unbecoming.

Obnoxious dude but nice car and sweet dog. My 991.2 4s looks like Roseanne Barr compared to that Ferrari but I drive mine all year round in NH as my only car. I would love to at least drive a Ferrari but as for ownership, I don't think I can give it the care that it will ask for or deserve. My 911 gets washed in a auto car wash and gets used like any ordinary car like my wife's Volvo wagon. What I love about my 911. A really useable sports car without being a constant source of worry or irritation.

You're missing the sarcasm. My stupid comment about who buys Ferraris is just as relevant as his stupid comments about why people buy Porsches.

Wow I’m surprised this post stirred up so much sh$t. I love cars. I love Porsche, I think their cars are awesome and the 911 is iconic. Ferraris and Lambos are amazing, but obviously different. I don’t believe this guy is being malicious, he basically saying buy what you want and what you can afford. He is just supporting the Ferrari brand and is trying to deflect the talk of reliability and costly repairs.
I’m pretty sure all car guys would buy something more expensive if they had the means, that’s just natural.
Personally I would like to own a 918 Spyder and a Pagani, but currently they are outside of my budget.
P.S. the guy has a Basset Hound, he can’t be that bad.

What made the whole vid funny is that he owns a 2010 458.
The 458 is powered by a 4,497 cc (4.5 L; 274.4 cu in) engine of the "Ferrari/Maserati" F136V8family, generating a power output of 570 PS (419 kW; 562 hp) at 9,000 rpm (redline) and 540 N⋅m (398 lb⋅ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm[9] with 80% torque available at 3,250 rpm.[8] The engine features direct fuel injection, which is a first for Ferrari mid-engine setups in its road cars.[8] (Wikipedia)
Ferrari's official 0–100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is 3.4 seconds. The car is not all that quick. This car on the used market is much cheaper than many of the 991 models on this forum. Some folks just need to put others down because they are insecure. Or are bald. Or have bad teeth. Or live in a small house. Or are teenagers and that’s what they do.
Gentle men and women, we are better than this. For sure.
