I had actually offered 48k initially when he was asking 55k. He had aftermarket wheels in the car (I did not like the wheels) and asked him to put the stock ones back on and offered 48k. He countered with 50k with the stock wheels and I accepted. I had originally started with a budget of around 36k, so I definitely jumped up quite a bit...

I had been looking at 997.2s for under 40k and found those almost impossible to find in decent condition. I convinced myself what’s the point of spending 45k on a good 997.2 when I could get a 991.1 S for 50k?

talk about buying outside of budget... I know a lot of folks on here are strong believers in the “spend more money to get exactly what you want,” but I’m just not as affluent to afford 80k/90k dollar cars, haha.

I did “settle” a little, but I’m very happy with the purchase and it’s the best I could do given my constraints. I look forward to working on it myself.

That was my deal as well. I was on the hunt for a 997.2S, but then I drove one and a 991.1 Base, and it was a pretty easy decision that I don't regret at all.

I do think 997 owners selling their cars have a bit of an issue in their hands... 991.1 is a better car in many regards (it’s longer 4 inches, big deal) and they’re asking similar amounts for their 997s that 991 owners are selling their cars for.

I just don’t see the value in spending the same money just to say I got a 997. The 991s are still naturally aspirated.

I think the 991 is a deep value play. Buy! Buy! Buy! Never Sell! YOLO!

These 991.1s are great cars and great deals. I started out with a similar approach - focused on 991s, including 991.1s then, I test drove a black 2017 C2 MT at the Porsche dealer in Princeton. I will never forget that drive - I was sold on the 991.2 MT (for me). I also also looked at the 992s that day - not interested. The black car in particular was surprisingly rough including chips and scratches - especially with just 13K miles on it, so I went the other way, falling in love with the car above, a like-new 2019 C2S MT. I paid more for it, but plan to keep it. I think it's because I owned an 80s 911, that the 991 appeals to me more than the 992. So many small details that matter to me (and apparently many of you), that most people wouldn't understand or appreciate. I'd be happy to list them, but I have probably already rambled too much in this post

Although I could afford more (so snotty &#128514 it was the 997’s I was seeking but while looking around I really preferred the 991.1 as it had all the advantages of the gen and still NA. Cost another $15k at the time but well worth it.

So far this is all I have of the car with the stock wheels. It hasn’t shipped yet so I’ll be sure to snap some pics when she gets here and I take her on some drives around Germany. I’ve decided to name my C2S. Calling her Artemis.

Beautiful @WolfDenShoebox The stock 991 “S” wheels are my favorite Porsche wheels. That’s dark blue metallic, right? Love it.

Looks great! OEM wheels are definitely the way to go. Enjoy her!

yes! Dark blue metallic is very nice. At the right angle of light it looks green. It’s a cool effect.

I agree, the S wheels are definitely much nicer than any of the aftermarket options. It just fits the car. I wonder if the car would look better with black ones.

That’s a tough call. I definitely prefer the stock color/finish wheels with my GT silver, but I do have black (359) wheels on my midnight blue M3, and they look awesome.

Thanks for sharing your story.
I’m in the same boat with a budget in the low $40’s. After looking at what’s out there, I really need to increase the budget around 20 percent to get what I want. I’m still willing to play out the market for a few more months, so the search continues.
I was at my local Porsche dealer this morning and inventory, new and used, is pathetic. I even overhead one the the salesman on a call saying, I don’t even have any 992’s in inventory.

if you’re not able to increase your budget, I’d say it may be best to be patient. Maybe by the summer or next fall things will drop a little bit.

I feel like any 991 in the $50k range is a straight steal.

That blue is gorgeous. That's a great buy.
