991.2 Water Pump Failures
#151
I doubt anything like 40% fail because people that have the water pump problem google something like "Porsche 991.2 water pump failure" and find this site then participate in the poll. People that have no problem and don't visit this site are not voting obviously and this could be a large group.

I'm also another no vote, that is now a yes.

40% is not high, it's completely detached from reality. Above 10% lawyers would be crawling over each other to get a piece of the class action pie.

2018 GTS built 2017.
I track frequently. I am highly modded with up graded turbo’s. Been running E40 for years.
35,000km and the water pump is fine.
It is very hot here, 10 months of the year.
I wonder if all these failures happen in places that get a real winter that has snow and freezing temps?
Maybe they need better anti freeze?
Anyway, zero issues here and i have not heard of this being a thing around here. So its very possible climate change caused this. 🤣. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Experienced the leak in my 2019 Carrera T at about 15,000 miles (owned from new) in warm sunny California. 2-day job to fix back in 2021 under warranty. The service department knows exactly what it is and (at that time) had water pumps on hand for this eventuality.
Even if we assume that this is an incredibly rare failure (I have my doubts, but no one has all the data), I think it's a great PSA to have people look under their cars for the telltale pink goo now and again. Because of this forum I knew the probable cause immediately, and took it in to the dealer before it got to the stage where I was getting overheat warnings, etc.
I've owned enough cars to know that every car will have problems, some will have common problems, if caught early this is more of an annoyance than anything (supply chain and dealer staffing issues at present notwithstanding).

My cost to replace the water pump, all but $100 covered under aftermarket warranty, $1,300. My Independent on a "while you are in there" replaced the serpentine belt and a roller sensor.
If I have to do it again....the parts will be free, maybe labor too with the part warrantied for 10 years. And I have a Fidelity Warranty if all else fails.
For me, my 2017 Carrera GTS is sich an incredible car, I really don't care if I have to replace the water pump again. The "Good" overrides the "Bad"!!!
