Got the PCNA letter today. My car has been fine, but should it break, I'm covered.

Our water pump work took place in 2019 when our (early build, 2017 Carrera, bought new) 911 had just under 20,000 miles. So far, all's well. Car now has 29,000 miles. I've also heard (as per barncobob) that Porsche is extending coverage for the problem for 10 years.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Today a letter (dated December 7, 2022) came from Porsche Cars North America, Inc. Subject 2017-2018 Carrera/Targa - Warranty Extension for Coolant Pump and Valve Block

The letter mentions some part numbers, but the key message of the letter is that the problem components warranty, "...will be extended to a total of 10 years from new vehicle delivery or up to120,000 miles, whichever comes first."

Look for your letter in the mail. Should be sooner rather than later.

Thanks for this. It will be a poor show if Porsche Great Britain don’t also follow this approach...

It appears and I am no expert Porsche.added a shield in 2017 to isolate the water pump impeller from flow to help engine warm faster. Once engine reaches temperature the shield retracts and allows circulation. Pretty cool. It's the vacuum actuator that controls the "shield" that appears to get compromised. I imagine by now Porsche has figured it out. Any 2019 failures?

I received the letter a couple of days ago. It is basically a restatement of Porsches technical service bulletin dated April 13, 2021.

I got a 2017 which I bought used (but CPO) and I was not able to get any records of prior work from the prior 2 owners (dealer only shared the CPO work and maintenance work done prior to sale), so I have no idea if my 2017 had in fact the water pump replaced already or not (bought car with 33K miles). I now have close to 39K miles and everything is great, but I have to say I liked it when I got the letter last week with the 10yr extended coverage - definitely more piece of mind past the 2-year CPO coverage.

Mine still hasn’t failed yet (4 1/2 years, 16k miles) but I am sure it is inevitable. Glad they extended the warranty.

Now, just waiting for the temps to go back up so I can get some more miles on her!

I bought my 2017 Carrera on August 1, 2019. My service guy said the water pump was leaking I would need to replace it. I finally did in October of last year (2022), using a genuine Porsche part. Then two months later I got the letter announcing the warranty extension. When I went to Porsche, they said they would not cover the replacement because the work was not done at a Porsche dealership. I told them if I had known they were going to extend the warranty two months after my repair, I would have waited.

It seems patently unfair they are not offering any compensation for the $2000 I paid for the parts and labor.

Do I have a case? Has anyone experienced something similar, and what you did. I'm trying to get a response for anyone if Porsche North America after their representative Tori Havard stonewalled me.

No. All warranty work must be done by an authorized Porsche dealer.

I have a 2017 C2 Cabriolet. Just got the leaking water pump replaced under the 10 year extended warranty. 16,000 miles. Was at the Porsche Dealer a week. Had to wait on the crossover connector. They replaced the pump and the vacuum valve block.

I just purchased a CPO '17 C4S with 10,200 miles on the clock. In the CPO report, was notification that they replace the water pump during the inspection. Now I know why!!

Not that it applies to my model year, but is Porsche also covering costs while away on a trip due to inconvenience? They just admitted to an issue by providing a 10 year warranty.

Does Porsche cover "inconvenience" costs on any warranty claim?? umm, I don't think so...

Not when you are in your home town...obviously.

You mean to tell me when your car breaks down on the road and you are on warranty, it is your responsibilty to get it to a dealer. I don't think so. They usually give you a loaner as a minimum. And if you happen to be 200 miles from a dealer, they have to tow it in.

But when they can't get something as simple as getting a water pump to be reliable, one has to wonder. I guess the car is good for taking trips around the block.

Good thing I have a reliable daily driver.
