Having had a 996 GT3 that I traded for a 997 GT3 that I then traded for the T I would honestly say the only advantage the 996 GT3 has over the T is the Metzger. I still miss the sound of the engine and the rev to 8K+. There really is nothing like it. I put buckets in both the GT3s that made the drive feel more special but the chassis/suspension is far inferior to the 991.2. I enjoyed both the GT3s and miss them. But they are less useable for my driving than the T. My spec on the T is slick roof, buckets, RWS and ceramics. Its a phenomenal car that I will keep for a very long time.
I'm about to sign the papers on a 2019 T. I've been looking for a Miami Blue or Lava Orange T, S, or GTS for about a year and finally found one locally! It should be out of the CPO inspection today and I can bring it home tomorrow. I'm pumped!

Almost the perfect spec for me except I wish it had PDLS+, LCA, and 18-ways, but it'll do!
How many Miles on the t. Do you think the seats are hard like the ones in the 992. I drove the 992 and the seats were wicked stiff, and just uncomfortable. Thanks, John

8600 miles on it when I bought it.
The seats are really my only complaint about the car. The seat backs are a little narrow for me, but I have a pretty wide chest and back. But it's nothing I can't overcome.

Ok thanks so much. That is holding be back on the T. The poor 992 was just not a bit of softness anywhere to be found. I have a Ferrari 458 and the seats really are firm and about 70 miles in the car you are really ready to get out.

Oh.... another question. Do you feel like you are sitting "In" the seat or "On" the seat. Other than being narrow, is there any or much padding if you were to fit between the seat backs. I did a drive the same day in a GT4 the 718. Seats were really, really comfortable. I guess they had the Tex materials and not all leather. My Cayman has really comfortable seats. After getting out of the Ferrari today and then a 100 mile trip in the Cayman R . The Cayman felt like a Bentley.

That must be a beautiful car. Can't wait to see some pics!
Another opinion... Agree generally that 996 and most older cars feel more visceral but imho its mostly because newer cars are so good and do everything so well that we take for granted how good they are. There's also a certain amount of nostalgia when we drive older cars. Part of the thing we call "soul" is built on that nostalgia and the squeaks, rattles, fact that it breaks down and needs care that modern calls generally don't need or have. Also, modern 911s have limits that are much higher than older ones which makes them feel "less exciting" at lower speeds than older ones.
I am not discounting older cars as I have a 993. I love to drive her and she delivers a tremendous amount of joy and smiles, but if I am honest with myself, the T is really a better car in almost every aspect and is incredibly easy to live with.
I believe if we fast forward 25 years, we will appreciate the T much more for what it is than what it isn't.
As far as parts bin specials, I wouldn't discount that as there's a reason there is a saying that says the whole is better than the sum of the parts. I expect most BMW 1M owners feel that way when it has been called just a parts bin special. Having had an E46 and E92 M3, I can see why some would say that but I expect it is special based on feedback from enthusiasts and owners. I can't comment as have never driven one.
I drove the S, GTS, Turbo (all great cars) and ultimately selected the T as it was the one that spoke to me the most. Couldn't exactly explain why it did, but it did. I have a 7mt with buckets, slicktop and no RWS which were the options I wanted. It has a certain amount of rawness and sportiness along with a daily livability. Maybe it's the buckets (1/2 of what flsupraguy says makes it special) and a little less sound deadening. Again, not sure. I've also noticed that the longer I've had it, the more I appreciate it and enjoy it. Of course that's just a biased opinion from an owner and I may just speaking my book.
As far as choosing between a 996 GT3 and the T, really depends on what you are going to do with it. Have never owned one but have spent some time driving the 996 GT3 and it is an incedible driver's car. If it's a 2nd or beyond car for you, then probably can't go wrong with the GT3. Would definitely get a PPI as it's getting to the age where it could need a lot of work and has a lot of history behind it that would need to be understood as Ducktails said.
nice perspective and nice to read your thoughts.
I have a 2018 T and I love it also. I don’t have the buckets thought —and I’m glad for that. The rest of the T doesn’t feel edgy enough (to me) to rate the buckets. I like the car for what it is, which is a sharpened 911. The lower tune engine (less lag) with a better final drive ratio (from the S) make a ton of difference, IMO.
I sold my 991.S Turbo S to get into a 991.2 GT3 and this car has the buckets. It seems much more appropriate here because the rest of the car is so edgy and stiff. Here the bucket seem appropriate because you’re a part of the car. In the T, there’s so much body roll and the springs are softer, to me, I would bet the buckets just exacerbate feeling the car move around on its suspension and it would annoy me.
that written, I think the T is my favorite car 95% of the time.
Just another reason to love this car. I almost broke 30 MPG door to door on my commute today. Mostly freeway of course but ran it in Normal mode and mostly chilled on the drive and this was the result:
The second pic shows actual oil and coolant temps when running in Normal mode. Oil went as high as 230 but mostly stayed in the 225 + or - range. Interesting data points.
And this weekend I can do a couple canyon runs and cut that MPG number by two thirds!!
Man I love this car.....

Oil temp is intentionally higher in Normal. The engine runs more efficiently, gets higher MPG with less emissions. The target oil temp in Normal is 225F, so your temps are as expected.

I'm aware but thanks for pointing that out! I recently changed the mapping for the coolant temp so it's been interesting to watch what it actually does.

Saw your water temp and it wasn't 194... and then realized you had to have done the "mod" in the other thread. Once I figure out which scanner to buy I'm definitely doing that on both my 981 spyder and the T!

I should have checked who I was replying to 😊 my bad! Well, it’s good info for others I guess 😊

Pretty sure none of the basic OBD2 scanners will do it. My understanding you need a Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System (PIWIS) tool, which cost $1000+, occasionally used ones pop up, but the easiest thing is to find an Indy familiar with this (or explain) and pay $40-80 to make the change.
