I am going to try this next. The real issue is Treadwear. TrofeoR is 80. Whereas Cup 2 is 180 and PS4S is 360. So from that you can see that PS4S has twice as much tread wear as Cup 2. And Cup2 just over twice as much tread wear as TrofeoR. Less tread depth = less tread squirm, better feel, better handling. Less miles.

In fact, PS4S tires have a tread depth of 9.5/32, while SC2s are 7.2/32, according to Tire Rack, so the tread depth isn't as different as you suggest. And the Trofeo R tread depth is only slightly less at 6/32. Of course, the shallower tread block do reduce squirm, but the track-oriented tires also have considerably less open area in their tread patterns and large blocks, which reduces squirm even more. Probably the biggest cause of the lower Wear Index is the softer rubber compounds in the SC2 and Trofeo R. The softer rubber delivers more grip but also wears away faster.

I'd be rather hesitant to trust those Pirellis in the wet because of the tread pattern and lack of water displacement grooves. I ended up having to make room in the trailer for another car while we were on the road and had to drive the GTS home 500 miles from Road Atlanta so I unmounted them and went back to the stock Michelins; I was too nervous about a wet ride home. Given how soft they are I didn't want to put 500 highway miles on them either or pick up a nail somewhere.

The ride home was nice and comfortable. With the full monoball suspension there's a tiny bit more road noise but it wasn't harsh by any means. I'm rather happy about it because I still want this to be something you guys can have as a track weapon that can be driven to/from the track. With the PSE off and PASM off, it's quiet and comfy.

I didn't have the battery charger with me so I was doing it at the gas station and when you install/uninstall it takes a few minutes so I was scared to get out and kick the OBD cord! As for the performance on the trip home, the car gets 29mpg on a 500 mile drive that was half back roads and half highway. It's a great machine and probably the most well rounded Porsche I've ever had the pleasure of owning!

Thats normal - the x51/RAS/S/GTS cars also get additional rear deflectors too.

Too right, the MPSC2 N1 aren't that great either - just did a hill climb, first half of the day it was wet. Lots of fun but slow and often sideways. PM, dry surface boom off to the races with tons of grip.

Thank you, new to me. The 996GT3 did not have any, used GT3 Cup ducts that went below the underside of the car to channel air. Nice to see even base models have good brake cooling.
