Default Break in period

Break in question
dealer said no need ! I was looking at lots of different amounts on here. Plz advise what you did ? I was thinking 500 or 1000 miles under 3,500/4000 rpm

I've been told

Under 4000 for the first 1000 miles - don't use cruise control and vary your shifting so no long drives at a constant rpm

Biggest thing - don"t let the engin get lugged down

Under 5000 for the next 1000 miles

Then no restrictions.

My dealer said to make sure the oil is up to temp and then just go. I took it easy for the first 1000 miles but no way could I stay under 4000 RPM for that long.

Ok, one week in and just turned over 700 miles - My thoughts.

The Carrera T is, in my opinion, hands down the best 911 I have ever owned! After 700 miles in the last week of varied driving followed up with a 2 hour trip yesterday and a 4 hour trip today I can't say enough about what a fantastic car this is. After the last two 911's that I've owned, I for the first time feel as engaged overall in every aspect of driving this car as I did in my first 84 Carrera.

The gearing and the gearbox are nothing short of fantastic! I'm still limiting myself to 4000 rpm, but the pull this car provides even with that limitation is impressive. What I like the most, compared to the PDK, is that the manual transmission provides more intuitive feedback letting you control the shift point and the torque by playing with the throttle under changing traffic or road conditions instead of having the PDK constantly upshift too soon only to have to downshift again when you step down on the throttle. To me the manual gearbox of the T is just more intuitive in the way it connects you to the car.

Overall the car drives like it's on rails. It's glued to the road and is super responsive, however the ride is not uncomfortable or harsh even on longer trips.

Compared to the 2017 S I can't say that the road noise is different at all. It really depends on the road surface how much noise you get in the cabin. And as far as engine noise goes, 6th and 7th gear are both very quiet at cruising speeds. We did a 4 hour trip today, in 95 degree heat and were both very comfortable with the AC in normal and only two steps on the fan speed.

Lastly, the RAS is a must have in my opinion. The T feels as small as my 84 911, and it's uncanny how nimble it is around corners and twisty roads.

My T has turned out to be every bit and more of the road car that I could have ever hoped for - This one is a keeper!

My previous Porsche owner experience -
1984 911 Carrera Whale tail - manual 5 speed
2007 911 Carrera S Triptronic
2017 911 Carrera S PDK RAS

Manual says to try and keep below 4,000 rpm for first 1,865 miles.

I need to read the manual

I have over 800 miles now. I tried to keep things quite (below 400 for the first 500), but I have gone over a quite a few times in the last 300 miles, only after the oil temp is > 190 though.

The Wing Commander is in the UK. Their manual and the manual in the USA differ on this point. There are plenty of opinions on this subject out there (try search). Only you can make the decision.

Looks like I better stay away from a car with RAS, I am not ready to dump my (non RAS) car yet. :-)
...Maybe I'll get RAS on the GT3RS/PDK to compensate for no MT. (A boy can dream.)

RAS and LWBS seem differentiating options for the T, that you can't get on base. Luckily I got the later.

[edit, for me, the less complexity in the car the better. (yes, I know).. but I am hoping less is more when it comes to ongoing maintenance.]

Thanks. I didn’t know that. Just wondering how the advice can vary between the UK and the US on the same car...?! Strange...

One word ... lawyers. The break period is grossly overly conservative here in the US.

That's a great pic. I ordered the black PDLS as well. Looks stellar with GT Silver...

My euro delivery pick up trip is 3 weeks away.

Wow! More conservative than keeping it below 4,000rpm for the first 3,000km?

I guess it's the same in the UK vs US then.
